"Anton was easy to work with. Sent email on a Sunday. He called in five minutes and came that afternoon to look at the job. Replaced baseboard in four bedrooms and repaired a hole in the ceiling. All work was completed in two days starting that Monday. The carpenter that did the baseboards (I think his name is John) was great, neat and did a wonderful job. I will definately call Anton again. "We used Rivera Construction to reconstruct our deck, and we couldn’t be happier! Andrew and Dan are real pros, especially at a time when finding responsive and reliable help is so hard to find. Rivera provided us with detailed estimates, and they were very upfront and communicative as issues came up. They provided a realistic and true to schedule timeline and knew how to work with the town for permits and inspections. We will definitely use them again for our home renovation needs!"

Small jobs welcome

"WF Carpentry (Wes Fogg) recently completed a project to upgrade an outside staircase. The project was completed on budget and on time. I am very satisfied with the results and impressed with Mr. Fogg’s work ethic, attention to detail and craftmanship. Throughout the project Mr. Fogg made recommendations to enhance the design, durability and aesthetics of the staircase. I will gladly provide references and hire WF Carpentry on future projects. Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

A cross brace for a fence gate should stretch from the top corner of the gate’s hinge side to the bottom corner of its latch side at a 45-degree angle to the bottom of the gate. This positioning distributes the bulk of the gate’s weight to the base of the post, taking pressure off the top hinge.
