"Barbara was phenomenal. A true professional dedicated to her craft and excellent customer service. We had a custom toilet that stopped working, and a leaky faucet in the same bathroom. She reached out right away after requesting a quote through Angi, and she came the same day. At first she told us that the toilet required a part she’d have to order, and after fiddling with the faucet, recommended the 15 year-old fixture be replaced. I offered to purchase it from Home Depot or Lowe’s she agreed to come back to replace the old one and install it in 3 days. After she left, she called me back and asked if she can return because she figured out how she could try to fix the toilet with existing parts she had in her truck. She did it. The toilet is functioning better than it did before the problems began! She then returned 3 days later as promised to replace the bathroom faucet, a complicated project because of the cabinet structure that she stuck with and skillfully completed. On a personal note. We bonded once I asked about the name of the company, which her father, who founded the company, named after his Navy ship. My dad also served in the Navy. Barbara kept me regularly posted about when she’d arrive and the progress of the work. She was true to her word. I’d gladly paid her for her excellent work."

"Anthony arrived super early which was good because my toilet was leaking to the floor below. He gave me a list of options and after removing the toilet and reviewing the damage, we decided on a course of action. He was efficient and clean. The work was finished in no time . I thought the work would have been much more extensive. Perhaps other plumbers would have priced it for more than was necessary. I am VERY pleased with the work Anthony did for our family."

"The drains in my old house with a lot of big trees in the front yard got clogged, so of course I thought the worst, imagining that the whole sewer line would have to be dug up. Never hire someone when you are panicked, because you do not have a chance to shop for price. Now I know that this service could have cost me a lot less at other reputable places. But that is not my complaint.
As for the service itself, it was really fine. They were responsive, came quickly, called back, all that good stuff. Did not try to sell me more than I needed, dig up my whole yard, etc (it was only a problem with one toilet line.) Jay was a bit too happy to hold up a bag of stuff to "educate me" as to what was clogging the line (unflushable wipes) when a short explanation would have done just fine. That may have been rude, and I wonder if he would have done it with every client, but whatever.
My real complaint is this: as I wrote the check, Jay handed me a review form...and then stood there, waiting for me to complete it and hand it back to him. When I refused, he said I would do it online (of course I could) but there was...oh, attitude.
I thought that was obnoxious. Worse, I can imagine lots of people being intimidated enough to let him get away with it. Which I did not, though he then literally tried to grab it out of my hand (I had already written notes on it and had no intention of giving it to him.) This behavior totally skews the validity of any reviews his company might get, and so I advise that you not rely on these reviews alone in deciding whether to hire MAKO.
I can't imagine that what he tried to do is Angie's List protocol.

"Called and left message explaining issue of finding wet toilet paper underneath vent outside. John called back within 10 minutes. He answered my questions and was very pleasant. Paul the technician arrived 10 minutes before scheduled appointment. Very knowledgeable and courteous. Originally was having just one cesspool serviced but felt comfortable enough to have the second one done and install collar on tank. They are now my cesspool company without hesitation. Highly recommended and trustworthy.

"I was thrilled to have AJ Perry arrive at my door so quickly to fix my clogged toilet especially on a Sunday. He was friendly, professional, and above all he got the job done with his expert knowledge of plumbing and did it all at a very fair price. I am extremely happy with the overall work and experience. I would consider using him again if I had a plumbing issue again. Thank you very much."

"I own an air conditioning company, so I understand the value of service. I had a clogged kitchen sink that I tried to clear myself. Unfortunately, I only had a 25 foot snake and it just wasn't long enough to reach the clog. When I called a few places near me, I got the same attitude when I explained that I know how to remove the trap, check the garbage disposal, etc, etc. They knew they were not going to take advantage of me, so they just threw a high price at me and couldn't wait to get me off the phone. I then checked HomeAdvisor and saw Draino Sewer Cleaning's reviews. I filled out the online service request last night and within minutes, the owner was on the phone with me. I appreciate how fast he called. He listened to me explain my problem and respected the fact that I knew how to remove the trap, snake the main line, etc. I asked for a price and he gave me an extremely fair and "firm" price. I asked how his guys would know if it's just a clog in the kitchen line or the main line, and he said: "since every other sink and toilet works, it can't be the main sewer line". He assured me it would just be the kitchen line. Right there I knew he was honest, so I scheduled an appointment for the next day. He told me his guy would be there between 10-12pm. He showed up at 9:45am, which was great because I needed to get to my office. The technician Pete put a tarp down on the floor, removed the trap, carefully removed the water with his own bucket (didn't ask me for anything because he was well prepared) and brought in a 50 foot snake. He extended the entire 50 foot length through the pipe, snaked it back out and at the end was a baby wipe! Those things will destroy your entire plumbing system. He replaced the trap and waited to see that the drain was clear. Pete was a nice guy, very clean when working and did a great job. I paid, gave Pete a tip and will have them come back once a year to clear the main drains to the house just as a preventative measure in the future. Great company!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

If you notice water coming out of the bottom of your tank or the flush handle, you obviously have a leaking tank. Water on the side of the tank can indicate cracks. Other signs include the toilet running and flushing without anyone touching the handle, needing to jiggle the handle to make the water stop after flushing, or needing to hold the handle down to empty the water tank.

Replacing a toilet typically takes two to four hours. Several factors can impact this timeline, including the condition of the old toilet, flange, flooring, and pipes. If a professional discovers issues like a cracked flange, damaged flooring, leaky pipes, or a broken wax ring, the installation will take longer. Additionally, some toilets, such as wall-mounted or in-wall-tank models, are more complex to install and may require cutting into and repairing drywall, which adds to the project time. Given the weight of toilets and the importance of proper placement, it is often best to hire a professional for the job.

Yes, you should screw your flange to the subfloor, including cement. The best way to get this done is to predrill holes into the concrete using a hammer drill and a ¼-inch concrete bit. Be careful when you’re ready to bolt your flange down, as you can accidentally crack it. You can avoid this issue by not installing the screws too deep. Or, you can opt for a flange with a stainless steel ring so you don’t have to worry about cracking the plastic.

If you have to hold the toilet handle (also called the toilet lever) down to flush, you probably have a chain problem. A chain that cannot fully lift the flapper will close too early and not clear the toilet bowl. Try adjusting the chain length so there’s about ½ inch of slack.

In most cases, it’s better to repair a toilet than to replace it. Fixing issues like low water levels, running water, and flushing problems is less expensive than buying a new unit. Start thinking about replacement if the toilet is cracked, using excessive amounts of water, or is over 15 years old. Newer models are more water-efficient and clog less often than older models.
