"Our toilet flapper had a problem last summer and a handyman tried to help us fix it as a favor to us while doing another job in our home. He said that he was missing a small key part from our supplies, but he did his best. So then we called in another plumbing co. to help tweak it back to 100%. More $$ and it still was not up to par by co #2. So then we tried to fix it ourselves, which lasted a few months fine. But then, it when it went totally kaput. Yikes! So we let it sit for a month, completely useless to all. Finally yesterday we woke up and said that THIS is the day that we will get this properly fixed!!!! I reviewed many Anglie's List reviewer's comments and narrowed it down to Barnagat. I bought the necessary items early that AM to make sure that the supplier had them in stock. Then I reached out to Barbara and was so appreciative that she was able to take my call because I had little time remaining to meet all timelines. I explained to her our needs, our timeframes, etc. I told her our main job was the toilet but we had a few side jobs too if possible, all upfront. She called us back shortly afterwards, after she managed to change her schedule around to meet our time needs, which we greatly appreciated!!! She called prior to the agreed upon arrival time to responsibly notify us that she was minimally delayed, just as the others had previously mentioned. She was professional, polite, warm, friendly, and caring. She is very genuine. I have waited a full day to hold off on writing this review to confirm that it was done accurately (after usage), and indeed it surely was. We are nothing but grateful to Barbara for her help from A to Z and will surely call on Barbara again in the future. Thank you so much Barbara!!!!"

"Great! John, the owner was super helpful and nice on the phone. Eased all our concerns. The crew, Phil and Tim, showed up right on time and were able to locate the service caps in the lawn in 10 minutes. They showed me clearly how full the tanks were and clearly explained the problem and the solution. The prices quoted were very fair and there were no surprises. It took around 90 minutes. The job was all done outdoors and when they left you would never know it was done. Very neat and professional. The odors, etc we had were gone and we noticed the drains all flowing more freely. Exactly as they said. So glad we had this done before it became a serious and ugly problem inside the house. We highly recommend Priority Cesspool Sewer and Drain. Thank you!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

In most cases, it’s better to repair a toilet than to replace it. Fixing issues like low water levels, running water, and flushing problems is less expensive than buying a new unit. Start thinking about replacement if the toilet is cracked, using excessive amounts of water, or is over 15 years old. Newer models are more water-efficient and clog less often than older models.

To drain a broken toilet, place towels or plastic sheeting around the base in case of splashing or overflowing. Next, shut off the toilet’s water supply, usually via a valve on the wall behind the toilet. Begin flushing the handle to remove as much water as possible from the tank and the bowl. Don’t flush the toilet if it’s clogged, though. From there, use a large sponge to soak up any remaining water and wring it over a bucket.

If you have to hold the toilet handle (also called the toilet lever) down to flush, you probably have a chain problem. A chain that cannot fully lift the flapper will close too early and not clear the toilet bowl. Try adjusting the chain length so there’s about ½ inch of slack.

Some of the most common plumbing repairs are certainly no small issues. The good news is that plumbers typically deal with these problems frequently and have the parts and tools ready to take care of them quickly and efficiently. These common problems include:

  • Clogged drains: $75–$250

  • Clogged toilet: $125–$300

  • Bathtub and shower: $100–$600

  • Faucet or showerhead: $200–$350

  • Sink pipe: $200–$500

  • Toilet repair: $150–$400

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common installation method that can simplify plumbing and save space. However, there are important considerations. The vent and associated plumbing must be large enough to handle the demands of all fixtures without compromising the vent's effectiveness. Additionally, the toilet should always be located downstream of all other fixtures. Because requirements can vary and space might be limited, it is essential to check your local building and plumbing codes and consult with a qualified plumber to ensure the installation is done correctly.
