"Long Hill Masonry renovated our front and rear stoops, which after 65 years were slowly falling apart. My husband and I are Thrilled with how they turned out. Within 2 days of our call, Joe Tavella (Owner) came to our home to give us an estimate. We explained what our ideas were and Joe even added further suggestions to improving the design. Joe, through his expertise and knowledge was able to do what 3 other contractors told us they couldn't do. After knowing this and with a fair quote, we asked Joe when can he start the job. The job was then completed in a very timely manner (in 1 day). Joe and his team were neat reliable, efficient, meticulous and took real pride to producing top quality work. End result...Perfection at it's Best! Beautiful stoops to last a Lifetime! Without hesitation we look forward to having Long Hill Masonry do another project for us. Would highly recommend."

"My Front and Side Door Porches needed to be updated. I had a neighbor use Masonry Hardscapes by Anthony & Joseph. After seeing their project completed. I knew this was the company I wanted to use. From start to finish Joseph went through step by step how he was going to repair and improve the look of the front and side porch. They came on time and cleaned up after the project was done. They used Cambridge 12x24 Crusader Cap Stone for the steps. Cambridge 3-piece Ledgestone Pavers in the Limestone Quarry Blend color for the center of the top of the porch. MSI Surfaces Rock mount Cultured Stone in the Alaska Grey color for the sides and the face of the steps. Can not thank you enough Joseph for the amazing job you and your team did. I will use them again for my next masonry project."

"Bob's team came in today on time, with all the equipment they needed, Removed the sidewalk and chopped the tree roots that caused the walkway to buckle. formed and filled the new space with concrete. All done in about 5 hours. Great job, men were cordial and worked steady on through until the end of the project. and cleaned up afterward. Small jobs welcome

"Richie and his guys did a fantastic job. They put an egress window and egress stairs leading into our basement. In addition, they did concrete work in the basement. Despite having a small yard space to maneuver in outside, they managed to get the excavation done without damaging any of our fruit trees or plants. The stairs look superb. I highly recommend this company for any concrete, masonry or landscape work you need done. I can assure you that you will be very happy with the results."

"Jarek and his crew were the best! They were on time, professional and VERY hard workers. We hired them to install a 3' X 25' block retaining wall and decided to add stairs to the wall and then added a small retaining wall around the fence line to use for plants. They extended their stay and completed everything. They did a super job! We then hired them to do a block sidewalk and driveway skirt at another home we own. In the middle of the project we again added another project, Belgian block along the curb. They stayed until every project was completed. His crew worked on this project in over 90 degree weather everyday from 7:30-5 and worked just as hard. I would not hesitate to hire them again or to recommend them."

"I cannot speak highly enough about Misael and his worker. I had my front steps redone with pavers, not the biggest job.. but they treated my project like it was a $10,000. job.. The workmanship is wonderful, they take pride in their work and it shows. Very dependable and pleasant to deal with. My front steps came out better than I could even imagine!!! I would recommend this company in a heartbeat!"

"Brickworks Corp did a great job cementing a gap in my chimney and repointing my stoop and some other masonry work. However, they did not do a great job of cleaning and had dust and masonry particles all over the front of my house after the job was completed."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Safety during masonry work requires strict adherence to federal dust control standards. Workers must use wet cutting methods and wear respirators to prevent hazardous silica exposure. For projects involving excavation in NY, professionals must contact the state utility locator service before digging to avoid striking dense underground infrastructure. Ensure your contractor halts mortar applications when temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit unless they use proper cold-weather protection.

Helpful?

Routine maintenance for masonry work focuses heavily on combating freeze-thaw damage. Commack experiences frequent temperature swings, so inspect mortar joints every five years and schedule repointing as necessary. Protect concrete and brick surfaces from harsh winter salt by applying a sealant before the cold weather arrives. You must also clean off white salt deposits and check your chimney cap annually to prevent moisture damage from heavy coastal storms.

Helpful?

Watch out for contractors who discourage pulling permits for structural masonry work, as this creates issues during home sales. Avoid quotes that ignore the 36-inch frost depth required in Commack or skip drainage details for the local sandy loam soil. You should also reject estimates with vague scopes for chimney repairs. Always ensure your chosen professional holds a valid home improvement license to operate legally in NY.

Helpful?

Identify the exact source of your issue to determine the right professional. Water seeping through foundation wall cracks requires masonry work, but moisture rising through the basement floor calls for a waterproofing specialist. If your chimney leaks, inspect the mortar joints and crown first. Extensive settlement cracks in your Commack driveway point to underlying soil compaction issues, requiring a grading contractor before any surface resurfacing begins.

Helpful?

Repairing deteriorated mortar joints, spalled bricks, or cracked chimney crowns is more cost-effective than full replacement. However, structural failures demand complete rebuilds. If a retaining wall bows significantly or a foundation wall develops horizontal cracks from soil pressure, replacement becomes mandatory. Because structural replacement projects in Commack require building permits, restoring sound existing structures remains the most economical approach for your residential masonry work.
