"The owner Chris was very quick to come out and quote the job. I asked for a contract be written up and Chris told me he would bring one when he came back to start the job. Initially Chris and his crew worked extremely hard and did an excellent job. Because of this I made the mistake of giving Chris some (cash) money up front to help him out, feeling that he was trustworthy since his crew was so diligent and worked long hours while on the job. After a few times at my house - and his stump grinder supposedly breaking - Chris asked if I could give him more money up front because he had the opportunity to buy a used stump grinder for $2,500. At the time my family was going through 2 very serious health crises and I made the mistake of never getting the written contract, and giving him money before he had completed the job. A few days after giving him the money for the stump grinder, Chris showed up, packed up all his equipment and left without finishing the job. I've since been unable to get in touch with him either by phone (2 different numbers) or by email. I still have a few trees that need to be cut down, brush ground up, and all the stumps he contracted for to be ground down. A few of the trees that he cut down were left with their trunks very high and unsightly. Unfortunately I will eventually be hiring someone new to finish the job. Save yourself a lot of trouble and find someone else. Trustworthy people do not take advantage of others when they know they are in a vulnerable state."

"I had a frustrating experience with Flower City Mulch today and feel completely misled by their delivery policy. Their website clearly states that mulch will be delivered on the scheduled date unless heavy rain is forecasted. At checkout, there's a vague disclaimer saying delivery dates are not guaranteed, which I took to mean they might delay the delivery if weather was bad--not deliver early in the middle of a rainstorm. I scheduled my mulch for a Friday delivery. Instead, the driver called me two days early--on a rainy Wednesday--saying he was at my house and needed to drop it immediately. He was short with me on the phone and pressured me for a quick decision, even though I hadn't prepared for this at all. I told him I couldn't have it dropped in the driveway because I to be able to park there until Friday, which is why I scheduled it for then. I tried calling the office multiple times for help, but no one answered. When Julie finally returned my call, she was rude and dismissive, telling me I should be happy it was arriving early and that it was "only light rain." She told me she could cancel, but she said they'd still be keeping the delivery fee. I had to submit a dispute with my credit card company to get a full refund. This experience was unprofessional, and the lack of accountability and poor customer service was shocking. I won't be ordering from Flower City Mulch again, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone expecting reliable delivery or any sort of communication on when it's actually coming."

"I highly recommend them. Not only is the fence beautiful, now one year later, but I was impressed with the team’s professionalism, hard work, staying on my job until completion. Important as well was the respect, integrity and good humor they exhibited, both working together and interfacing with me and my neighbors. I highly recommend them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Licensing requirements for arborists vary by state and municipality, so you should use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to see if your arborist needs a license. Even if an arborist license isn’t mandated in your area, it’s a good idea to hire one that has at least a business license, business insurance, and certification from a third-party organization, like the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). Licensed arborists tend to have more experience and are more likely to provide a professional solution to your tree problem.

A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.

Palm tree removal can cost anywhere between $100 and $1,800 depending on palm size, tree condition, labor, location, and the amount of prep work involved. With the necessary skills, a DIY palm tree removal for trees shorter than 15 feet can lower costs. However, it’s generally recommended that you hire a palm tree expert for tree removal.

It is possible for you to cut down your own tree, but only take this project on if it’s a small tree and you’re experienced handling a chainsaw. If you need to use a ladder to cut down the tree or tree limbs, it’s too large (and dangerous) for you to remove yourself.

Hire a pro instead who can safely remove the tree without injury to you, themselves, or your home. Either way, look into tree removal regulations for the state you live in before having a tree removed to ensure it’s not a historic tree or protected by your city.

Yes, carefully prune back dead branches—don’t wait for pruning season. This helps keep your maple tree healthy and also helps prevent large branches from falling unexpectedly. Don’t seal the cut branch—trees can naturally take care of these wounds—but be sure to remove any source of fungus or pest infestation to help save the tree.
