"Bob was helpful with all questions we had, gave us a quote that beat some other contractors, fit us into his schedule and did a great job. The fence looks great, the gates work perfectly and they cleaned up well after. We are very happy with the work."

"I cannot say enough good things about DeRisio. These guys are great. They completed a large renovation project in a very short time period (less than two weeks). The project included removing a load bearing wall, reframing interior walls, installing hardwood floors, refinishing existing floors, installing carpet, running cabling through walls, etc. They were punctual, friendly, and cleaned up every day. They offered suggestions for minor changes along the way, sought my input on decisions when appropriate, and did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed the experience and would hire them again in a heartbeat."

"The work that was done entailed removal of existing exterior chimney pipe along with removal and replacement of the following: offset boot, storm collar, ice shield, flashing, roof shingles, and vinyl siding. The entire area was cleaned up and all debris removed upon completion. The repair men did a fantastic job and took the time to explain every part of the repair that was done. Also, when Igor came out and gave us the estimate he was knowledgeable and very thorough in diagnosing the issue and giving us a detailed plan for the repair work. The job was scheduled in a timely manner as was promised on the estimate. Igor also came out the day after the repair work was done and water tested the repair to ensure we would no longer have any water leaking into the house at that location."

"There rates can't be beat. I have used other handymen whose rates are much higher. Also I have found that scheduling with other handymen are tough. They are backlogged sometimes for weeks. With these guys if it is a simple job they can do it in 2 or 3 days."

"The workmen showed up on time and were very professional and did excellent work. My only issue was how long it took to get the work scheduled, despite that I would use JEC again and would certainly recommend them."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

You shouldn’t try to touch the electric fence, as it will shock you. Typically, the shock is low enough to be uncomfortable to humans or animals that come into contact with the fence. But an electric fence with high voltage, or a faulty fence, could shock you and cause serious injuries when touched.

Armadillos are attracted to water, so a leaky irrigation system or an overwatered lawn can encourage them to move in. They especially like wet areas where they can burrow and loose soil where they can dig for grubs. They are also attracted to dense ground cover, where they can often find food sources.

A chain-link fence does not lower your property value. However, chain links are not the most attractive materials—so it probably won’t raise the value either. If this is a concern, opt for wooden posts to provide visual flair and go with a color coating on your fence. Putting in a functional and attractive gate also helps up your resale value when installing a chain-link fence.

Most people prefer to keep the fence level by “stepping” the fence when running a horizontal fence over a slope. Stepping involves raising each panel between the posts as the fence moves over changes in slope, giving the fence line the appearance of stair steps. While this may be the preferred method of running a horizontal fence up a slope, there’s nothing wrong with installing your fence so it follows the undulations in the ground instead.

Pickets should sit at least 2 inches off the ground to encourage groundwater to flow underneath. Pickets can sit as much as 6 inches off the ground, but setting it any higher could let pets in or out of your yard unintentionally. These are not to be confused with the fence posts anchored underground with soil or concrete footing.
