"Mark Michaels/Great Design, Inc was our first experience working with an architect and the entire process could not have gone better. Mark listened to our ideas and concerns, asked detailed questions and gave thoughtful, creative suggestions and advice about the project - all before we had even signed our contract with him. He then carefully examined and measured the property and kept us updated as the plans took form. The end result is a set of top-notch, professional plans which are currently providing the basis for an amazing renovation."

"John is great to work with. Very responsive and professional. We're still working with him for our renovation we had to delay by a year due to timing issues. He's reassured us that he will continue to work with us on whatever we need when getting permits. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for an architect. He listens to what you want and also offers great ideas and alternatives."

"Nick and team were extremely helpful, informative, responsive and did exactly what they said they were going to do (and even better when they said they were going to do it). Nick was very reachable via email and was more than willing to help. I hope to never need a foundation expert again, but if I do I know that I would definitely have them do the work."

"I was not sure of where best place was to hang paintings and mirrors .Factors to be considered in making the decisions are  the surface and  composition  of sites, lighting near site ,if is a wall attached to another room or attached to outside wall and weather related factors.Placement is determined by personal tastes but there are practical and architectural considerations I failed to appreciate until he shared them with me.Tom was able to inform me of all factors to be considered and guide me .He was not pushy nor did i feel uncomfortable by my lack of knowing the ins and outs of such a job. I was not rushed and the final placement was the very image i had hoped to achieve in  my apt.

"The job was done in less than a week (as was promised!) and the house looked as new! After that i hired them to do job in my business, and once again it was done very professional and very quick. Parents and students who attended my school during the summer and then came back for classes in September could not believe what they saw! In less than a week Joseph's crew build another entrance to the school, painted the inside, put new floors, and built paver walkway outside The place looks marvelous now!"

"Everything turned out well, and it was a smooth process from start to finish.  Unfortunately, it was difficult to verify the work since they completed the job while we weren’t at home and since the work was done on the roof."

Architects questions, answered by experts

It is technically possible to draw your own blueprints, but the process is extremely involved and really demands help from an expert. A professional architect has an understanding of design elements, interior design, the functionality of different rooms in a home, and how everything from furniture, outlets, and light switches should be laid out to serve you and your family best. Hiring an architect for blueprints can get expensive, but it’s the most responsible way to begin a new construction project. If you’re keen on DIYing, you could consider starting the process and then having a professional take over.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

Architects can cater to both residential and commercial projects, tailoring their approach according to the specific sector regulatory requirements.

Most Greek Revival architecture homes are one and a half to two stories, depending on the footprint, which sets them apart from some Federal architecture homes that are three stories. The gabled roof on the second floor can sometimes cut into the living space, especially on smaller homes of this style, which leaves a much smaller living area upstairs.

A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.
