"Brian is a brilliant Architect. He drew up plans for a custom home. He is an old school kind of guy and very personable. I gave him the size of lot and provided a few photographs of houses we liked. We told him of our ideas and he implemented it and put it on paper. While driving I found a cute house, I stopped and took a picture. The owners were outside and I told them I thought they had a great house. They asked if I wanted to see the inside and they told me what they would have changed if they could. There was a lot of open space in the home. I showed Brian, we thought we can make it a loft or enclose it and turn into a master bedroom. There was a porch in front and in back, we did not need two. Brian said, lets remove one and bump out the kitchen. He had very reasonable ideas and sent us the drawings. We went back and forth a few times with our ideas. He would say, this looks brilliant but impractical. Brian made repeated adjustments and design changes; he was very patient throughout. He provided reasonable pricing, great value and amazing aesthetic. Then he sent the design that works. He made himself available throughout construction. If I called with questions, he answered the phone, even on Saturday. With all the changes we made, we would not have changed a thing. We love our house and are living in our dream home. We would hire him again in a heart beat with no hesitation."

Small jobs welcome

"I need help with a conceptual architectural solution for my vacation four-bedroom home. I have never worked with an architect and needed someone experienced who knows how to guide me through the process. Moe has done a great job. My wife and I loved the concept, and we are going to file for a permit with his help and hopefully build the house soon!"

"Blake was very respectful, gave a fair price, and completed the work in a timely manor. We had a leak in our roof, which damaged a wall in our family room. Blake was able to repair both the roof, as well as the family room wall. His work was precise, and done with obvious pride. When he was done, he was sure to leave the area that he was working in clean. We would hire Blake for future construction needs, with no hesitation."

Architects questions, answered by experts

Your Buffalo home is a good candidate for architectural service projects if it has a solid foundation and a roof structure capable of handling heavy snow loads. Also, consider regulatory factors, as properties in historic districts like Elmwood Village have special requirements. An assessment of your lot size for potential additions and your home's current value versus the renovation investment will help determine project viability.

Helpful?

Yes, completing architectural service projects can significantly increase your home's value in the NY market. Kitchen and bathroom renovations offer a high return on investment, often 60–80%. Due to the local climate, energy-efficiency improvements like new insulation and updated HVAC systems are highly appealing to buyers. Professionally designed projects can add a premium of 10–15% to your home's resale price, making it a worthwhile investment.

Helpful?

In Buffalo, the best time for architectural service projects is planned during fall and winter for a late spring start. This avoids construction during harsh winter months. Physical signs that it's time include ice dams on your roof, foundation cracks from freeze-thaw cycles, or an HVAC system that struggles with extreme temperatures. These issues indicate your home needs professional architectural attention to improve performance.

Helpful?

Successful architectural service projects in Buffalo, NY, prioritize weather-resistant design to handle heavy snow loads and freeze-thaw cycles. This includes steep roof pitches, quality insulation, and durable materials like brick. Adherence to local building codes, especially for snow loads of 30-40 psf and historic district regulations, is also critical for longevity. Proper foundation design for the area's clay-heavy soil ensures stability.

Helpful?

The climate in Buffalo, NY, heavily influences architectural service projects. Heavy snow loads require engineered roof structures, while frequent freeze-thaw cycles impact foundation and material choices. The short 5- to 6-month construction season demands careful planning. Design adaptations like covered entryways, proper attic ventilation to prevent ice dams, and excellent drainage systems are essential for homes to withstand local weather patterns effectively.
