"Had an amazing experience with Brooklyn Urban Locksmith. Super professional, quick, and reliable. I was locked out late in the evening, and within minutes of calling, Leo showed up. He was not only skilled but also really respectful and easy to talk to. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. Leo handled the situation like a pro—no damage, no mess, just efficient work. He even went the extra mile to make sure everything was secure before leaving. If you ever need a locksmith in Brooklyn, this is the team to call. Trustworthy, fast, and fairly priced."

"I can?t say enough good things about Ari and his locksmith service! I was locked out of my apartment late at night, and within minutes, Ari was on the way. Not only did he arrive quickly, but he was professional, friendly, and got me back inside without any damage to the lock. You can tell he genuinely cares about his customers. He explained everything clearly, charged a fair price (no surprise fees), and even gave me some great security tips. Finding a trustworthy locksmith can be tough, but Ari is the real deal. If you ever need a locksmith, this is the guy to call!"

"I needed four locks changed on my front and back doors, two on the inside and two on the outside as the locks I had were pretty old and worn out. I called Angel and he gave me a great price. I asked Angel about high security locks, and he said those would be a better option than standard locks. Angel was on time and very professional. He even showed me the difference between the standard locks and the high security locks. What a great guy. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that is looking for a reliable locksmith that is honest and caring."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to add security to a sliding glass door. To start, install a rod or deadbolt lock instead of the flip-lock that comes standard with most sliding glass doors. Add a sensor to the door and monitor any activity through your home security system.

Finally, installing shatterproof window film will help keep the structural integrity of the glass if it cracks.

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.

If your key breaks in a lock, first remain calm and avoid forcing the broken piece further in. You may be able to remove it yourself if a portion of the key is still protruding from the lock. To aid removal, lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray. Then, try using tools like pliers, tweezers, a bobby pin, or even a jigsaw blade to gently grasp and pull the broken piece out. If these methods don't work, you can't reach the key, or you're concerned about damaging the lock, it's best to call a professional locksmith for assistance.

Rekeying a lock changes the internal mechanism so that a new key works, while replacing a lock involves swapping out the entire hardware. Rekeying is a good, cost-effective option when you want to ensure old keys no longer work, such as after moving into a new home or losing a key. It's also ideal if you want to keep your existing lock hardware. You should opt to replace the locks entirely if you want to upgrade to a more secure or different style of lock, if the current lock is old or damaged, after a break-in, or if too many copies of the old key exist.

Costs depend on lock type, service complexity, labor, emergency availability, and whether security system integration is needed.
