"10/10, primarily hired because their communication was beyond superb compared to the other folks I had gotten quotes from. Work came out great, knowledgeable, respectful, and on time which is about all you can ask for."

"The work done by Jhon and his crew was excellent. They repaired structo-lite walls, plastered, removed old wallpaper, skim coated walls and painted. Work was done in 6 apartments in a very timely manner and I needed to add other work on as the project commenced. Jhon was very accommodating. His estimates were detailed and he made sure I was completely aware of each phase of the project. I would definitely recommend Paladin Painting and hire them again whenever I need painting or this type of repair work done. They do a great job!"

"I wish I could clone Carlos. Him and his crew were on-time and quick without jeopardizing quality. Carlos is very creative. I love how he thinks outside the box. We are so happy. We already have him on another project."

"Elias came on time and did extensive plaster repair and painting including wall, window sill and frame, radiator. He also made good on my punch list. His second job was for three hallway areas needing the same. He was very friendly and accommodating, and even did some extra work for free that was not originally agreed on. He finished early the second time, and he did great work on both jobs."

"I am super happy to recruit this company to help me renovate my bathroom! This bathroom is still in the process but I have a feeling my bathroom will come out beautifully. I already took a picture of it. They gave me an amazing deal. Very affordable. They are timely, reliable and they do things exactly as I have asked them to. No complaints!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

A utility knife is sharp enough to score the drywall and it may work in a pinch for outlet box holes. However, one of the best tools for drywall when you need to make exact cuts for an outlet box quickly is a drywall saw. This handheld tool has a longer blade than a utility knife, so it penetrates the thickness of the drywall easily. The design of its handle and the teeth in its blade make it easier to control while cutting quicker than you can with a utility knife.

Drywall repair is typically completed within a day, depending on damage extent.

Plastering lasts for around 15 to 20 years without needing repairs or maintenance in most cases, and with proper upkeep, plastering can last a lifetime—sometimes more than 100 years. Plaster repair costs between $1 and $3 per square foot, and you may need these services once every 15 to 20 years or so unless you have a harsh climate where humidity changes are a constant issue. You can also opt to skim-coat plaster for between $0.90 and $1.30 per square foot, which may serve you better in the long run.

Knowing what causes drywall damage can help stop it before it starts. Here are some of the most common causes of drywall damage:

  • Water damage from roof leaks or leaky pipes.

  • Small holes caused by doorknobs, minor accidents, and rodent infestations.

  • Wall dents stemming from moving furniture and minor accidents.

  • Wall cracks that form from a settling foundation or seismic activity.

  • Nail pops from nails and screws in the walls.

  • Large holes that are caused by accidents with heavy objects, children and pets, or sporting equipment.

The two most common drywall thicknesses for ceilings are 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch. For most standard residential applications, 1/2-inch drywall is sufficient and widely used. It provides adequate support and is lighter and easier to handle during installation compared to thicker sheets. However, 5/8-inch drywall is often used for specific cases where additional benefits are needed. It is heavier but provides superior sound dampening and fire resistance. You should consider using 5/8-inch drywall for ceilings in commercial buildings, between a garage and a living space, or above a finished basement to meet building codes or for enhanced soundproofing.
