"I cannot say enough good things about these men! We are very pleased with the bathroom remodel they just did. They went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect paying attention to details most would not. I will continue to use them for all our future repairs and remodels, and you should also!!!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Tony came into our job to fix and finish a remodel of full kitchen, bath, mud room, dining room and siding that another contractor bitched up. I wish I had found him first as it would have save me a lot of stress and money. Tony and his crew were all very professional and came up with some really nice design ideas that really helped bring the entire project together. He is responsive when you reach out to him with questions which is very reassuring when you are going through any remodel. If you want someone that will get the job done right and they way you want it work with T&J Sheery"

"So happy we chose R&D for our exterior wall repairs! they were great to work with throughout the process of what turned out to be a complicated issue. Their communication was really appreciated as they dug into things and problem solved some unique issues with how the previous home owners had cut corners on the house. R&D wasn’t the cheapest initial bid we received but I have no doubt that we would have wound up paying more in the end for a lower quality result with anyone else. Thanks guys!"

Thankfully, we called Modern Building & Contracting, and honestly, we only wish we had found them first! James and Mike came out, listened to our concerns, and immediately put us at ease. From start to finish, they were professional, knowledgeable, and committed to doing the job right. The quality of their workmanship exceeded our expectations, and the finished deck turned out absolutely beautiful. My family and I couldn?t be happier with the results. "Although a slight problem at the beginning with both ends finding a mutually agreeable time to meet to discuss the project, I felt a good job was done by TriCounty Remodelers. Initial options were asked about and a secondary solution was agreed upon after some more local research was completed. A slight push back was experienced, but that was due to uncooperative weatherfor the initial start of the project. Better options were also offered and accepted in the doing of the project. The project was fully completed in the time alloted. All demolished materials were removed after work was completed each day. I will be having more work performed by these professionals during the next constructuion season in 2010."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Save money on your basement finishing project by making cost-effective decisions such as minimizing structural changes and avoiding costly construction revisions. DIY simpler tasks such as painting or basic cleanup to reduce labor costs. You can also opt for energy-efficient fixtures and materials that may qualify for rebates or tax incentives.
