"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"I hired this company to repair a leaking skylight. They responded promptly to my request and was very professional. They gave me 3 options on the type of work they would do to repair the leaking skylight. I opted for the most expensive option because it came with a 5 year warranty from them. Their price was very affordable compare to other companies. I must have made changes to the contracts at least 3 times. They had no problem accommodating all of my requests. They completed the job when they said they would, working on the roof from morning 'til it was too dark outside to see. They came back following days just to add finishing touches. They were pleasant and professional and I would definitely hire them again."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

The decision to remove a skylight depends on your specific circumstances and preferences. There are several reasons why you might consider removing a skylight, such as extensive damage, a desire for better insulation, or the need to change the room's layout. Additionally, if the skylight is causing leaks or other issues, it may be necessary to remove and replace it (which can incur additional skylight installation costs). It's important to assess your specific situation and consult with professionals if needed to make an informed decision.

Roof windows and skylights can be installed on various roof materials, but skylights are usually the only option that you have if you have a flat roof or a roof with a slope under 15 degrees. In these cases, roof windows have too high of a risk of leaking to be suitable options. The specific installation requirements may vary, so it's important to hire a window replacement contractor. Certain types of roofs may not be ideal if they limit the size of the window or if they pose an issue with rainwater collecting around the area.

Skylights are the most likely windows to leak if installed improperly, so there are a few questions you should ask any skylight installer before you hire them:

  • Do you specialize in skylight installation or only windows in general?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for the installation?

  • What recourse do I have if the skylight leaks shortly after installation?

  • Do you have references I can speak with?

  • How long have you been in business?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.
