"We replaced the windows in our 1933 home through the services of MadCity Windows. From the initial contact with their sales representative to final installation, the company provided top notch professional work. With the draft from the old windows and the cold of the glass, we are already saving on our energy bills. Our house had old, large windows, so they had to be custom made. As an industrial designer and interior designer, we find our windows to be of excellent quality."

"The salesman came to our home in a timely manner and gave us the options. These windows come with a lifetime guarantee. We had already gone to the store and looked at the windows and spoke with a manager and decided on Comfort. We looked at different brands at Home Depot and these are comparable. It took about 6 weeks to get the windows ordered and then another month to get on their schedule for the install. The day of install 4 guys came. They were very professional. They wore booties in the house so as not to track snow in. They did not leave any mess at all. The even put our window treatments back up after the windows were installed which they didn't have to do. What was amazing is that they installed 20 windows before noon on the first day. They still had to do trim work around the inside but we were able to get our house back together by the end of the first day. Outside trim work was completed in the next 1 1/2 days. Outstanding crew and product. Highly recommend."

Windows questions, answered by experts

No, windows cannot be made 100% soundproof. Even the most advanced setups still allow some sound to pass through because windows are designed to let in light and are not completely sealed from the outside. While you cannot achieve complete silence, significant noise reduction is possible, with some noise-reduction windows blocking up to 95% of outside noise.

The goal is to minimize air gaps, add mass, and reduce vibration. To block out as much noise as possible, consider hiring a professional to install new double-pane, triple-pane, or laminated windows. You can further enhance soundproofing with airtight seals, glass inserts, shutters, or sound-dampening curtains. With the right upgrades, you can block out traffic, neighbors, and other city noise to a much quieter level.

Modern windows provide enhanced UV protection, improved heat retention, and cooling efficiency, contributing to overall household energy savings.

There are a few reasons your crank windows might not close. First, determine if your window crank is working properly and opening and closing the window when you turn it. If it’s not, the crank may need replacing, cleaning, or lubricating. Another reason your windows aren’t closing could be dirt and debris in the window hinges or sash. Finally, make sure your window lock operator is set in the unlocked position and isn’t blocking the window from fully closing. If you’re still having trouble closing your window, it may be worth consulting a local window contractor.

Yes, you can absolutely put a screen on a casement window, and most casement windows come with screens. Unlike with a double-hung, single-hung, or sliding window, the screen in a casement window sits on the inside of the window so that the sash can freely open outward. Screens are especially important for casement windows because the large window opening the window provides leaves your home more open to bugs and outside debris than most other types of operable windows.

When your double-hung window upper sash keeps falling down, it means you could be letting out warm air in the winter or cool air from the AC in the summer. That means your HVAC system works harder to warm or cool the house, costing you extra on electric bills.

If the lower sash continues to fall down, it means when you’ve popped open the window for fresh air, it could slam shut. In addition to being inconvenient, this could be dangerous if you have small kids, children, or pets that like to hang out by the window.
