"These guys are the best! We have been replacing the all the windows in our house, these were the last 5. We have a big house with 6 bay windows, and 15 regular. We had them replaced in sections had some from Sears, pure garbage, Home Deport, fair quality. I wish we would of did our whole house in these windows. These are beautiful, excellent quality with a great price. We were just interested in getting our patio replaced, an 8 footer. The salesperson told me about the windows they sell. We had budgeted $5000. for the patio door. The patio door was only $3300, I was quoted $2000, to replace just the glass from others and decided to go with new. I told him we have only 5 more windows to complete the house, He gave us $75. off each window. Sold! The guys came installed were neat professional, it was not like that with any of the others. i live in the boonies and it took them at least 50 minutes to get here. They did it all in less than 5 hours."

"I am very happy with the work that Adirondack Basements did for me. They were very courteous, professional and came exactly when they said they would. Even though it was a messy job to do, they took care to cover things and cleaned up very well after the job was done. I would highly recommend them to other customers.."

"Steve called me within seconds of my wanting to hire him. He showed up on time to check out the job of replacing an exterior storm door with windows and a screen for my back porch. He gave me an estimate, which I accepted. We scheduled a time and date for three days from then. He showed up 5 or 10 minutes early and completed the project in about an hour. I was very pleased with the results. He kept to the agreed-upon estimate, and I look forward to hiring him again if the needs arises. (Joe P.)"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Most homeowners prefer to service their windows during the spring or fall when temperatures are the most bearable, and having large openings in your wall won’t drastically increase your heating and cooling bills. However, while these seasons are the most convenient, you’ll also tend to pay more for window repair due to the increased demand. If you want to reduce labor costs, consider making window repairs in the off-seasons. Avoid waiting until the heart of winter to do repairs, though, as you could run into leaks and heat loss issues.

Water leakage through window openings is much more common in older homes, but it can also create issues with window frames that are improperly installed. If left unattended, water buildup can cause damage to surrounding fixtures, lead to harmful mold, and compromise the architectural integrity of your home. The potential damage that a water leak poses makes investing in weather- and water-proofing your window frames entirely worthwhile.

Double-pane windows offer several key benefits, making them a worthwhile investment. They provide superior insulation and energy efficiency compared to single-pane windows, which helps limit heat loss, maintain more comfortable indoor temperatures, and lower your utility bills. The design, which features two panes of glass filled with air or gas, also dramatically reduces noise from outside, making your home significantly quieter. Additionally, the dual-pane construction strengthened by spacers improves the durability and security of your windows.

The rough opening refers to the framed space in the wall where the window will be placed. That means the full size of the space will be filled with both glass and frame once the new window is installed. For a standard window, a rough opening adds 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch to both the length and width.

Yes, you can enlarge windows in a brick house. Your masonry contractor will need to cut away exterior brick to make space for the larger window, and you may also need to consult a structural engineer to make sure the window is properly supported inside the frame of the house.
