"Marius and his crew Jean and Rolando are best. They installed our landscaping precisely to our draw up design. They took their time and paid attention to very small details to ensure quality work. The water rock fountain exceeded expectations and we appreciated them getting to the job on time considering how many clients they have and their work schedule. They even put in a brick pad for our trash bins after the fact when we realized we needed it. Great craftsmanship fellows. Thank you."

Customers say: True professional

"We chose Summersweet because of the innovative design by the owner (Eric Jaramillo) and pricing comparable to other bids. Eric made a few minor modifications based on our input but the plan was pretty much as he originally envisioned. He is experienced and knows what he is doing him. Trust him! We did and everything came out beautifully. His workers were polite, efficient, showed up when agreed and did a great job. We could not be more pleased and highly recommend Summersweet. "Jesus did an amazing job. We called him to he came the same day to do a free estimate. We decided to continue with him. He was here the next day at 7 am already doing work. The job was definitely not small. He worked everyday til 5/6 o'clock. Our yard is unrecognizable and now has a lot more room I can landscape. He took out quite a few trees and bushes. Works hard and very fast. We highly recommend him."

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Mulch costs anywhere from $30 to $150 per cubic yard, depending on several factors. On the lower end, common types like red and black mulch cost about $35 to $40 per cubic yard and are often made from recycled wood. More premium options like cedar, cypress, and rubber mulch can cost between $100 and $120 per cubic yard. The total cost is also influenced by delivery, which can be around $75 per cubic yard, though many companies provide a free estimate. It is generally cheaper to buy mulch in bulk and have it delivered, but buying it in bags may be more cost-effective for smaller areas. Other factors like the quantity you need, time of year, your geographical location, and professional installation will also affect the final price. Before getting quotes, it's a good idea to calculate how much mulch you need. A professional can help you determine the most suitable type for your landscaping needs.

It is generally not recommended to put topsoil over new grass seed. A thick layer can suffocate the seedlings by preventing sunlight, water, and oxygen from reaching them. The seeds only need about a quarter-inch of soil for protection. If you want to protect the seeds, a better alternative is to apply a thin layer of organic matter, such as straw mulch or hay.

First, dig a hole that’s the same depth as the root ball and wide enough for the roots to spread out fully. Before placing the tree in the hole, pour water in to help get rid of any air pockets in the soil.

When filling the hole back in, opt for a 1:1 ratio of organic compost with the soil left over from the ground. Do not use potting soil, fertilizer, or chemicals of any kind, as these can stress out and kill your newly planted tree.

Yes, you can lay pea gravel directly on the dirt. First, dig a trench 2 to 6 inches deep the length and width of the area you want to cover. Plants and weeds will eventually grow through the pea gravel if you don’t lay down landscaping cloth.

Replace organic mulch every one to two years, depending on the variety. Wood chips and straw, for example, will last a couple of years, while grass clippings and pine needles need replacing every several months. Inorganic mulch—such as rock and rubber chips—can stay in place for up to four years, depending on erosion and general garden upkeep.
