"We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Joey and his crew were able to take care of each issue and charged us a fair amount for the extra work performed. We were very impressed with his willingness to get the job done in a timely manner. He even went to two or three places on his own to find the tile we wanted. We will definitely use 2 Daughters again and would recommend them to anyone needing his services.

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Powdery mildew is exactly like it sounds—a widespread mold that looks like baking soda or talcum powder. It’s usually seen on plants and spread in warm climates, which is why many people first discover this issue in their home greenhouse. Over time, plants have become resistant, but if you see it spreading, baking soda and water can eliminate many cases. Otherwise, consider neem oil or fungicide.

Some of the signs that could mean your water is contaminated, such as cloudiness or bubbliness, could also be non-problems that don’t affect your water’s potability. However, if your water smells or tastes strange, it’s a good idea to stop drinking it and test it immediately. If your well water is contaminated, the best way to discover that is to test it.

While the resistance of lime to mold is a hotly contested topic of debate, it is true that because it allows porous materials to breathe, it avoids trapping moisture close to the structure of a building. This breathability makes it less susceptible to mold than paint because it gathers less moisture.

Eliminating mold from wood permanently poses a challenge as the mold spores have the ability to deeply penetrate the porous wood surface. While surface mold can be effectively eradicated with proper cleaning and preventative measures, it's difficult to guarantee its non-recurrence under favorable conditions. To prevent mold from reappearing, it is important to identify and resolve the root cause of the moisture that triggered mold growth initially.

Ensuring appropriate ventilation and a dry environment, or consider applying protective finishes such as sealant, varnish, or paint to prevent future moisture penetration and mold growth. Consistently inspect and maintain the area to keep the wood free from mold in the long term.

If you’re wondering which is more toxic, laminate vs.vinyl flooring, you might be surprised to learn that both can include toxic chemicals. Depending on the specific brand and the manufacturing process, both are likely made from synthetic materials that can emit volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, into the air. However, since laminate has a wood core, it is more sustainable and less polluting than vinyl, which is entirely synthetic and almost always emits more VOCs than laminate flooring. If you’re concerned about indoor air quality, choose a low-chemical flooring manufacturer or, better yet, choose flooring that doesn’t off-gas VOCs.
