"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"They came out within a couple of days to do the estimate and then came back the next day to do the install. They were professional and went beyond what was required and kept the amount to what was quoted. If we have any other electrical requirements in the future we will definitely call them!"

First of all, I checked Angie's List to see which electric companies were listed and their ratings. I saw that LC Electric was rated overall "A" with between 20 and 30 ratings. Their information section was complete with contact information, business description, service area, operating hours, services included, payment options, business partners, trade license information, bonding, insurance and other info which I appreciate. I was disappointed they did not offer a senior discount and I failed to ask anyway.

I called LC Electric to see if they installed ceiling fans, which they confirmed they did. I asked when they could do the job and they said the next day. We set a time and they told me who would be doing the work. The day they said they would be there I got a call about 15 minutes before the appointment time saying they would be delayed about 1/2 hour. The technician showed up in 1/2 hour as promised, which I appreciated very much. He introduced himself and checked out the work area. Since I already had the fan, he quoted me $105 labor to install it, which I agreed to.

I would have installed it myself, but I have a high ceiling and a short ladder and didn't know anybody with one tall enough to do the job. I did not want to rent one, plus I was a little concerned I might loose my balance that high up trying to handle the fan and hook it up at the same time. I'm not as young as I used to be.

It took him an hour to finish the job and clean up after himself. I was impressed that he showed me the blades were a slightly different shade of finish on each side and asked me which side I wanted showing. We looked at the other fans in the house and decided which side matched the other ones. He turned on the fan for me to see and I was quite pleased to see it in operation at last (I had purchased it about a year before and kept putting off installing it). It was perfectly balanced and ran very quiet like the other fans in the house. He explained which wall switch turned on the fan and which one turned on the lights, which I was already familiar with, but nice of him to explain anyway.

The final bill was $113.72 with tax. We shook hands and he asked me to remember LC Electric the next time I have a job to do, which I will.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

For electrical work in Las Cruces, keep a non-contact voltage tester, digital multimeter, and insulated hand tools for safety. Stock up on UV-resistant wire connectors, weatherproof electrical boxes, and GFCI outlets, as the desert climate and strong sunlight can quickly degrade standard materials. Having extra surge protectors and heat-resistant tape on hand helps protect your system from frequent power surges and high temperatures.

Helpful?

Las Cruces homeowners are embracing Southwest-inspired lighting, smart home upgrades, and LED landscape accents for both style and efficiency. There’s growing interest in solar-ready wiring, EV charging stations, and whole-house surge protection to handle local weather extremes. Decorative switch plates, recessed lighting, and generator-ready panels are also popular, blending modern convenience with the area’s distinctive regional design preferences.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Las Cruces should consider the region’s intense summer heat, frequent monsoon storms, and high UV exposure, which can impact both scheduling and material selection. Many homes have aging wiring that may require upgrades for safety or efficiency. Flat roofs and stucco exteriors often need specialized installation techniques. Check that your project meets NM electrical codes and local inspection requirements for a smooth process.

Helpful?

In Las Cruces, small electrical projects such as installing new outlets or ceiling fans are typically finished within a few hours, while panel upgrades or adding circuits often take one to two days. Full home rewiring or integrating solar systems may require up to ten days. Be aware that permit approvals and summer monsoon weather can sometimes extend these timelines, especially during peak heat or storm periods.

Helpful?

Completing electrical projects in Las Cruces offers immediate safety enhancements, improved comfort during hot summers, and increased energy efficiency. Over time, you’ll add value to your property, reduce the need for emergency repairs, and prepare your home for solar panels or electric vehicle charging. Upgraded systems also help protect against power surges during monsoon storms and may qualify you for utility incentives or insurance discounts.
