First of all, I checked Angie's List to see which electric companies were listed and their ratings. I saw that LC Electric was rated overall "A" with between 20 and 30 ratings. Their information section was complete with contact information, business description, service area, operating hours, services included, payment options, business partners, trade license information, bonding, insurance and other info which I appreciate. I was disappointed they did not offer a senior discount and I failed to ask anyway.

I called LC Electric to see if they installed ceiling fans, which they confirmed they did. I asked when they could do the job and they said the next day. We set a time and they told me who would be doing the work. The day they said they would be there I got a call about 15 minutes before the appointment time saying they would be delayed about 1/2 hour. The technician showed up in 1/2 hour as promised, which I appreciated very much. He introduced himself and checked out the work area. Since I already had the fan, he quoted me $105 labor to install it, which I agreed to.

I would have installed it myself, but I have a high ceiling and a short ladder and didn't know anybody with one tall enough to do the job. I did not want to rent one, plus I was a little concerned I might loose my balance that high up trying to handle the fan and hook it up at the same time. I'm not as young as I used to be.

It took him an hour to finish the job and clean up after himself. I was impressed that he showed me the blades were a slightly different shade of finish on each side and asked me which side I wanted showing. We looked at the other fans in the house and decided which side matched the other ones. He turned on the fan for me to see and I was quite pleased to see it in operation at last (I had purchased it about a year before and kept putting off installing it). It was perfectly balanced and ran very quiet like the other fans in the house. He explained which wall switch turned on the fan and which one turned on the lights, which I was already familiar with, but nice of him to explain anyway.

The final bill was $113.72 with tax. We shook hands and he asked me to remember LC Electric the next time I have a job to do, which I will.

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

In Las Cruces, be cautious of quotes that exclude permit handling, overlook dust filtration needs, or understate the complexity of fuel line installation. Watch for contractors who avoid on-site evaluations, use high-pressure sales tactics, or lack local references. If a quote doesn’t address local climate challenges or utility requirements, or if payment terms seem unusual, consider it a warning sign.

Helpful?

When hiring generator installation pros in Las Cruces, ensure they have experience with desert soil conditions, extreme heat, and seasonal monsoon storms. Look for professionals with proper insurance, electrical expertise, and familiarity with local utility requirements. Reliable installers should offer references from Las Cruces projects, maintain access to local parts, and provide responsive service during power outages or emergencies.

Helpful?

Installing a generator in Las Cruces can enhance your home’s value and attract buyers seeking reliable backup power, especially in neighborhoods prone to outages or with older residents. A professionally installed system with proper permits and seamless integration stands out in the local market, offering peace of mind during storms and extreme heat—an appealing feature for rural, remote, or work-from-home buyers.

Helpful?

Las Cruces homeowners should start each spring by replacing air filters and testing cooling systems to combat dust and heat. Before monsoon season, inspect fuel lines and automatic start functions. After heavy rains, check for water damage and clear debris. In winter, run the generator monthly to prevent rodent issues and ensure reliable backup power. Regularly monitor oil, fuel, and electrical connections year-round.

Helpful?

In Las Cruces, warning signs that generator installation may need to be redone include persistent dust buildup in air filters due to desert winds, water intrusion after heavy summer rains, or generators failing during high heat. Frequent electrical tripping, unusual noise, or visible fuel line corrosion are also red flags. If the installation doesn’t meet local setback or grounding codes, a professional assessment is recommended.
