"I was connected to Patriot Electrical Services through my home warranty company, CHOICE. But I made the appointment myself. And was really pleased with both Travis and his wife, who works with him. They were able to check my outlets and circuitry within two-days' time of our initial phone call. They both are professional and pleasant to have in the home, and did a really good and efficient job of tracking down my problem. When I first noticed they are based in Farmington NM, I was a bit hesitant, because that's a couple of hours away from where I live in northwestern Albuquerque. They explained, however, they arrange to have work appointments clustered together, so they can schedule a full day in the NW Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area. I WOULD DEFINITELY HIRE THEM AGAIN."

"Honest family business that does outstanding work, quickly? How can you top that. He explained a lot about lightning and the various dangers. Given my tall, metal roofed home in a wooded setting, I needed lightning protection. I've never had a problem in 23 years, until the past 3 months. The frequency and intensity of electrical storms is increasing. I had two close calls (at the expense of over $1,000 of electronics (that I had plugged into expensive surge protectors!) With something as important as lightning protection, go with experience. Red, White, and Blue has that!"

  • The service was great!
  •  Ramon Acosta showed up on time for the appointment to lay out the the floor plan and had his men there at the house ready to work within 2 days. We wanted special made cabinets for the bathroom and Ramon brought us a cabinet designer to our home to work out the details! The workers were punctual and cleaned up their mess after each day of work. The remodel was finished on schedule. I plan on remodeling the kitchen and I will be calling D & R Services for that project as well!

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Farmington, a strong seasonal inspection routine starts with checking outdoor outlets and fixtures for winter damage each spring and inspecting panels for dust buildup. Before summer, review air conditioning connections and clean electrical panels. In the fall, secure outdoor lighting and test backup power sources. During winter, monitor for overloaded circuits from heaters and check for condensation in panels to maintain electrical safety year-round.

Helpful?

In NM, flickering lights during wind, frequent breaker trips, burning smells from outlets, or warm switch plates are signs you need electrical work. If the issue is a neighborhood-wide outage, it’s likely a utility problem. Appliance or HVAC failures may indicate mechanical issues. Dust buildup or wind damage might require cleaning or structural repair, not just electrical attention, especially given New Mexico’s climate challenges.

Helpful?

In Farmington, homeowners often skip required permits for projects beyond simple fixture changes, which can create electrical safety hazards and code violations. Overlooking grounding upgrades in older homes is another frequent issue. Attempting DIY work on main panels, overloading circuits with high-demand appliances, using mismatched wire types, and neglecting to weatherproof outdoor outlets for Farmington’s wind and dust are also common mistakes that can compromise home electrical safety.

Helpful?

Farmington homeowners are choosing smart thermostats and solar panel integration to handle temperature extremes and boost energy efficiency. Outdoor living upgrades, like LED patio lighting and weather-resistant outlets, are popular for entertaining. Whole-house LED retrofits, surge protection for monsoon season, and electric vehicle charging stations are in demand. Southwestern-style fixtures and dust-resistant electrical boxes are also favored for both style and electrical safety.

Helpful?

For electrical maintenance in Farmington, keep a non-contact voltage tester, wire strippers, and UV-resistant electrical tape for outdoor use. Stock a GFCI outlet tester for bathrooms and patios, a multimeter for troubleshooting, and dust masks for attic work. Essential supplies include wire nuts, surge protectors to guard against monsoon lightning, weatherproof outlet covers, and electrical boxes rated for Farmington’s temperature swings to ensure ongoing electrical safety.
