"The summer of 2018, we were extraordinarily fortunate to work with the 50-year-old, second generation Santa Fe firm of Babcock Construction known for their expertise in new construction and renovation. We had the benefit of all the Babcock principals of which there are three, the patriarch Joe, who founded the firm in 1968 and his two sons, Richard and Steve each with 45 and 40 years’ experience respectively. All three bring particular specialties, perspectives and gifts to any job. On the team were their long standing first rate sub-contractors: tile setter, electrician, plumber, painter plus their in house carpenters. Our expectations were high, since both of us have backgrounds in new construction, renovation and historic preservation. The job consisted of renovating our Tesuque, NM 3000 sq.’ adobe style stucco house with the work on the garden scheduled for next spring. The three qualities that were present throughout are on-time completion at every stage of the project and attention to a very high level of detail on all aspects of the job. Of equal importance on the job is their overarching belief in solutions, not problems, which dictated each day’s outcome throughout the two and a half months. Other qualities that the three brought were attentive listening and a high degree of collaboration with each other and the clients. This project was a complete success and a pleasurable collaboration also filled with moments of humor and kindness. We recommend them very highly for anything needed done on a house."

"The service went very well.  I called and asked if a plumber could come and change our expansion tank off of our hot water heater and was told that the plumber would be there between 1 and 3.  About 15 minutes before 1, the plumber called and asked if he could come by.
The service at the house went well and he used buckets and towels to make sure he didn't spill water everywhere.  The water that did drip on our garage floor was cleaned up before he left.
They accept credit cards and are very professional, I'd use them again!

"Two whole sections of the wall had to be replaced. The base was laid to perfection and each block is continually checked for plumb once placed.  Leo makes sure everything is done correctly.  He periodically cleans his tools and the surrounding area. The wall is coming together beautifully!.  I'm confident  that wall will be here for many years.

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Choosing the right pipe material is critical for long-lasting plumbing. Copper and PEX resist the heavy mineral scaling prevalent in Farmington much better than older galvanized steel. Exterior lines require proper bedding to withstand shifting clay soils and heavy summer monsoon rains. You must also incorporate freeze protection into the initial design and ensure all work passes local inspections to guarantee long-term safety and code compliance.

Helpful?

Start your plumbing maintenance by locating your main interior shutoff valve and the street-level meter box. Because Farmington experiences freezing temperatures, protect exposed pipes with insulation sleeves and keep under-sink cabinets open during cold snaps. You should also soak clogged faucet aerators in a descaling solution to clear mineral buildup. Drain and disconnect evaporative cooler lines before winter arrives to prevent standing water damage.

Helpful?

Consider the local water quality, as high sediment from spring snowmelt dictates your fixture and pipe material choices. Confirm whether your property connects to the municipal sewer or requires a septic system. Because Farmington serves as a major oil and gas hub, skilled professionals are in high demand, so schedule your plumbing upgrades early. Always verify that your chosen contractor holds a valid New Mexico license.

Helpful?

When planning plumbing projects, expect a few local surprises. Farmington has notably hard water, meaning pipe replacement is frequently required once professionals discover heavy scale buildup. Digging outside often uncovers hard caliche soil, requiring special equipment and extra labor. Additionally, past winter freezes often leave hidden micro-fractures inside exterior walls. Always secure the required local permits to avoid fines and rework.

Helpful?

Updating your plumbing directly enhances your daily comfort. Installing water softening systems combats the severe hard water found across NM, protecting your appliances and preventing dry skin. Replacing scale-clogged pipes restores strong water pressure to your showers and faucets. Furthermore, properly insulating pipes provides peace of mind during harsh winter cold snaps, while fixing hidden leaks prevents structural damage and protects your indoor air quality.
