"Christian and his assistant were very polite and considerate, and on time, and did their best to accommodate my chemical sensitivity. They found less expensive and chemical-free ways to do the work. They came back on Saturday to fix a leak by replacing a pop-up. I was very happy with their thoughtfulness and their work."

"This project started out with toilet issues. John was wonderful and advised us all the way throughout the project. We had more issues than we thought but we are flushing again without fear!! He did have other appointments when he ran into the extra issues here but he returned later that afternoon and we were done in one day. I highly recommend Strongbuilt Plumbing & Air."

"The service went very well. They worked me into their schedule and were at my home within 45 minutes of calling. Very professional and personable service. I'm not a plumbing expert (I can do the small stuff) but what I see looks very well done. They had to go get some parts as my new heater was taller than the old one, but even that was a short delay. I would definitely call them again for the next plumbing emergency, or hopefully something planned.

"The technician was friendly and did a good job.  It take a while to get the technician to return and fix the toilets as the parts were not readily available.  I would use this company again as they are friendly and responsive.

"Chris was able to arrange tile work as well as toilet installation. He and his associate were efficient, good humored and did excellent work at a reasonable price. I couldn't be more pleased with their work. And I have owned tis house with its many plumbing challenges since 1972 and I now would never look for another plumber!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The most practical and common setup is a toilet that connects with the sewer line or a septic tank. However, it is possible to install a toilet without a sewer line, and this can be particularly helpful in basements with no or outdated plumbing. An increasingly popular option is an environmentally friendly composting toilet. Other waterless options include incinerating or dry flush toilets, which pull the waste into an airtight container.

First, check that you have cut off the water supply to your toilet. This is a project that can only be done safely if running water cannot reach your toilet fixture. If you're seeing water trickle out after you've confirmed that the water supply is shut off, you can probably rest assured that what you're seeing isn't a problem. It's common for leftover water to spill out when you're removing your toilet's fill valve. If something goes wrong while you're working on your toilet, you'll need to look at your home's policy to see if your homeowner insurance covers water damage.

Yes, frozen pipes can prevent a toilet from working correctly. If the pipes are frozen, water cannot flow, which means your toilet tank won't be able to refill after a flush. This will prevent the toilet from flushing again. Depending on which lines are frozen, the ice can also block the drain pipe, preventing water from flushing away.

As a temporary workaround, you can manually add water to the tank for each flush. To clear a frozen drain pipe, you can try filling the toilet bowl or tank with warm water and flushing to help thaw the ice. However, the best long-term solution is to unfreeze the pipes to get your toilet back in working order.

While a leak may seem small, even a gentle trickle of consistent moisture can lead to mold problems in your bathroom. Make sure you know how to check for mold if your toilet has been leaking for a while. Pooling water by your toilet also poses a risk for someone slipping on the slick floor of your bathroom. Finally, a leak of any size can lead to water waste that increases your water bill.

The water in your toilet tank refills after each flush. So if you see dirty water in the bowl, you should check the tank to see if it’s coming from there. A dirty toilet tank can be the result of sediment in the water itself—-after all, the water will sit in the tank between flushes and can cause the interior to change into a dingy color. Faulty toilet components, like an old flapper, corroded tank lever or chain, or damaged seals, can also lead to dirty water as the materials break down inside the tank. You can clean the toilet tank or change out the old parts to give it a fresh start.
