"Very nice and very competent skilled workers. After I described the job over the phone (a gas water heater replacement) I was quoted a price and I never thought they would stick to it. But they did stick to it! Another plumber came out to look and his quote was $1400 more! YIPES! I have already recommended them to 2 other neighbors and should the need arise, I will definitely use them again."

"The installation went fantastic! Joe the owner was there to help with the install along with his expert Tech Ken. Joe is very responsive, knowledgeable & helpful, just a really nice person to deal with. He even vacuumed behind our washer & dryer to remove dust & lint as they were running the hose into the drain.(he volunteered for this) Ken is a fantastic Tech, very knowledgeable about installs and works efficiently & quickly. We could not be happier with the install. The results of the quality of our water is terrific, no more dry skin, chipped nails and white spots on everything. We can even drink water from our faucets and no more gallon jugs of water to lug home from shopping. We give Advanced the Highest recommendation possible if you are looking for a new house water softening system, you could not be in better hands!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

You can install a water softener system by turning off the water supply, draining the water, and then connecting your device to the waterline. Next, you’ll fill your tank with the recommended amount of salt or brine (whichever your unit calls for; be sure to read the instructions). Turn the water supply on and check for leaks. You can opt to let your water run for a few minutes, then test it using strips.

The process of inspecting your water softener system is similar.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.

You can use a commercial water repellent treatment for glass on your shower doors to prevent water spots. Take care to only apply the product to glass. Letting air circulate also helps prevent water spots, as water is less likely to remain on the glass for a long time with good air circulation. Run your vent fan, open a window, and leave the shower door open for about half an hour after using the shower.

Choosing involves understanding water hardness levels, household size, desired features, and consulting professionals experienced in suitable system types.
