"I should have just done it myself. A lot of the problem was mine. I booked them, thinking I needed 5 locks done, but it turned out I only needed 1. They were very patient with my fluctuating understanding of my needs. The fee to come out is worth it if they're doing 5 locks, not if they're doing 1 lock. I think this is true for all locksmiths. The lock was replaced quickly; that part of the job was fine. I wasn't thrilled with the hard sell. Nothing against them, but, if you only have 1 to replace, go to Home Depot."

And like all electronic devices, outdated models are more prone to problems and safety concerns. If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position. 

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.

It is a good option if you have a quality lock that works well, you've recently moved, you've lost a key, or you need a quick security upgrade. The best choice depends on the condition of your current locks.

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.
