"We recently completed a project with Lallygone to remove 3 columns from my basement. The entire experience from scheduling a consultation with the engineer to completion of the job was seamless. The team is knowledgeable, courteous and very professional. I strongly recommend them for replacing lally columns or any structural improvements in existing or new homes. George thanks for your honest recommendations, Chris for your in-depth inspection and detailed explanation & Lena for managing it end to end.. thanks for the wonderful experience."

"Joe designed a beautiful family room addition to expand our Cape Cod style home. His design integrated the new room beautifully into the existing house and it looks like it was always there.  All of the builders who bid on his design remarked how detailed and complete his plans were. I would use him again without hesitation. A really good architect and a heck of a nice guy.

"Cigano identified a number of important changes to my architectural drawings to strengthen my structure (a car port). The changes recommended and implemented to my plans ensured my Town would issue a building permit. The Town had rejected my initial drawings and required its review and approval by a structural engineer or architect. Cigano really came through and its owner was easy to work with and highly professional. I would highly recommend Cigano."

"They were excellent. They quickly made a draft that only needed 3 minor adjustments. The final product was exactly what I needed. They referred me to a structural engineer for review. The whole process took half of the time that they initially estimated. I would definitely use them again."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Summit, address urgent issues like visible foundation cracks, sagging floors, or water intrusion right away, especially after storms or freeze-thaw events. Preventive upgrades or renovations can be scheduled. If you’re unsure, arrange a structural assessment to prioritize needs. Regular inspections help you catch problems early, protect your home’s value, and avoid complications from Summit’s challenging climate.

Helpful?

When planning structural engineering projects in Summit, account for the city’s steep slopes, which can complicate foundation design and drainage. If your property is near protected trees or in a historic district, anticipate extra review steps. Summit’s clay-heavy soil and frequent freeze-thaw cycles require special attention to soil stabilization and snow load calculations to ensure long-term structural integrity and compliance with local building practices.

Helpful?

Be wary of quotes in Summit that lack clear scope, omit insurance details, or seem unusually low. Avoid professionals unwilling to visit your site, provide local references, or explain how their work addresses Summit’s soil and weather challenges. Refusing to obtain permits or requesting large upfront payments are also warning signs. Choose a provider with local expertise, transparent communication, and a written contract.

Helpful?

In Summit, quality structural engineering is evident through detailed, stamped engineering drawings tailored for local soil conditions and snow loads. Completed inspections and thorough documentation of site visits are key. Look for clear evidence of structural assessment, such as soil reports and drainage solutions. The absence of new cracks or settlement, along with a final sign-off from a licensed engineer, signals a well-executed project.

Helpful?

To streamline your structural engineering project in Summit, start with a pre-application meeting to clarify local requirements. Verify your property survey, identify any historic or tree preservation restrictions, and engage a local structural engineer early. Submit a complete permit application, coordinate with other professionals, plan work for mild weather, schedule inspections in advance, and proactively inform neighbors about potential disruptions.
