"Friendly Tree Service was easy to work with from the first introduction to the quote and contract process to the removal of the tree and the payment. The team was very professional, accommodating, and kept us informed every step of the process. The removed all the debris and left our lawn much cleaner than they found it!"

"This is my second time with this tree company. For some reason didn't find them in Angie's list, but fortunately found their phone number in my phonebook (saved the last time). The estimate was a little bit cheaper comparing to others (I used 4 companies to get a truly transparent picture of what needs to be done and prevent upselling). Surprisingly to me, none of the companies tried to upsell; their recommendations were the same (up to some extend). At the end, decided to go with BJ's, mostly because of the prior positive experience. The work was done next business day after my call (they even offered same day services, but I was unable to accommodate). The work was done in less than 2 hours! Everything was cleaned after. I will definitely call BJ's next time when I need tree services. Highly recommend!"

"Julio was professional and we are extremely happy with the service he and his team provided.  While he wasn't able to do the job on the original date as promised because his truck died, he kept us informed and up to date with the status of the truck repairs.  He called us and didn't wait for us to call him.  As soon as the truck was ready, he was here the next day and completed the job as promised.  Also, he called the next day to see if we were happy with everything.  His proactive attitude was greatly appreciated and made us feel that we were appreciated by him as well.  Would definitely use Julio again and would highly recommend him and his crew.  Thanks for a job well done!

"He responded quickly to my call, came the same day to inspect the trees and began treatment within a few days. He was informative about the disease and had specialized training in treating oak wilt. He did let us know that treatment effectiveness is only about 50/50 when you have trees that are already infected. Since the treatment was recent, we don't know if the trees will survive. But since these trees provide our backyard shade, we decided to go ahead with the treatment."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

Costs depend on tree height, trunk diameter, removal complexity, and required equipment.

In the short term, you’ll have a lot of fallen trees to deal with. Tree removal services costs typically start at $200 per tree and increase based on species and size. Then, you’ll have to deal with the loss of trees: That means a loss of shade and a greater risk of rain runoff and erosion. Also, you’ll miss out on the health and aesthetic benefits of having trees on your property, which could even affect the resale value of your home.

That being said, cutting down a tree it’s not always a bad idea. Trees growing too close to rooftops can present fire hazards or debris problems. You may need to remove diseased or dying trees to prevent future issues.
