"I am an engineer by trade and the small retaining wall was very well constructed. 6 "gravel base, both bottom rows of block filled with crushed stone. Approx 50' of wall, took 19 hrs over 2 days, including clean up. Hardworking 2 man crew. I highly recommend."

"Alex with Diaz Fencing was very punctual and easy to work and communicate with. He came out for the consultation and knew exactly what would be best for our yard. We had been trying to figure out how to do the project ourself for a year since buying our home, but we had a pretty steep decline in the back of our property that would cause the fence to be un level if not fixed properly. Alex suggested doing a retaining wall, and did so in a very cost effective yet still safe and great looking way. He even added solar lights to the decorative steps he created as a bonus without mentioning it. We also asked him to remove an old section of fence and build a decorative gate which he did at no extra cost and made look great. Diaz Fencing also got the work done fast! They completed our retaining wall in a day, and then completed the entire fence project the next. I 100% recommend Diaz Fencing for your fencing project, and am looking to hire them again for more projects to come!"

"From first contact to the work itself, Ed and his team and top rate. They came when they said they would, did what they said they would and left our home spotless. A once etched and damaged looking marble counter top looks brand new again. Recommend highly"

"Patrick and his team were wonderful to work with for our stone and brick repointing! They came on time as scheduled for both the quote (which was very fair for the work that needed done) and actual work start date. The work they did looks amazing, and they took care to make the new sections of mortar have the same style as the old sections on our beautiful Victorian. Patrick even pointed out several other issues (some of which we were aware of), and prioritized them based on severity. We will happily be hiring them again for our masonry needs!"

"We had 9 windows installed. Overall, the installation went well. Only issue was when the trim was re-installed, there were marks left on my freshly painted walls. I will have to go back and touch them up. For the painting, 2 bedrooms, hallway and stairwell were painted. Again, overall, it was done well; however, we had to repeatedly point out several spots that needed to be 're-prepped' and repainted. Hardwood flooring was installed in a bedroom and hallway. No issues at all with this. The floors look beautiful.
Millenium offers quality work at an affordable price. They are usually good in responding to any issues or questions. You just need to know that since they have different crews, you may not get the same guys for your project.
We have used Millenium for several projects over the past two years and will definitely use them again. No one contractor is perfect, but as long as the end of the project meets your expectations, that contractor deserves to be considered for future projects. Millenium meets this criteria.

Retaining Wall Installers FAQs, answered by experts

Options include concrete, stone, brick, and wood, tailored for specific design needs.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.
