I had a great experience with Michael Patrick Construction. Mike and his crew were very good to work with, and answered any questions I had on the project. They are very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. Our deck turned out great and you can tell attention to detail is something MP Construction prides itself on. There were some obstacles along the way, specifically with the township and code requirements, but Mike and his team were always willing to work with me to come up with solutions that worked best for our needs. They also provide their services at a great value. I would highly recommend MP Construction to anyone looking to add a deck to their outdoor living space.

Mediocre work for a low price and the result is exactly what you would expect. Towards the end of my project I decided to hire someone else to finish the job. Honestly, it's hard for me to believe that these guys have built decks before, as the job they did on mine is so poor. They used the wrong post bases, and poored the footings below grade so they fill with water. Had to demo the concrete pad to keep the posts dry. They ordered the wrong railings, allegedly by accident, but I suspect to try and cut costs off the job. The trim of the stairs was abysmal, cut ends of the composite boards showing and freehand cuts that look like my toddler did them. Had to rip out the stairs and redo it. The deck boards are installed poorly and are dipping and bulging one year later. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

I hired MPC to build a new deck on my house, after we tore down an old dilapidated one. Overall, they did mediocre work for a low price and the result is exactly what you would expect. Towards the end of my project I decided to hire someone else to finish the job. On the plus side, they tried pretty hard to build me what I wanted, even though I did not hire an architect for this project, and I definitely should have. However, during the estimate process, they did not advise me to hire an architect, and then discouraged me from hiring one after construction began. Michael Patrick Construction cut corners on my project at every turn, and did not pay close enough attention to details. It took them 11 weeks to get the permit. Quite a few of my deck’s footings are poured below grade, so they fill with water whenever it rains. The posts are attached to the concrete footings with the wood-to-wood post bases (instead of wood-to-concrete, which has been standard on wood decks for 35 years now) so there’s no air gap between wood and concrete. In the long run, this will shorten the life of my deck posts, as they get absolutely soaked when it rains. There is no obvious reason that they were left this way, other than maybe they just ran out of concrete that day. The footings are not set on tubes, they simply dug holes, dumped concrete in them and filled those with water. The overall shape and location of the framed structure doesn't exactly match the plan, so corrections had to made during construction. On a few occasions, parts of the deck had to be re-framed. The stairs don't have a consistent rise, so they're slightly awkward to climb, and the rise is often low (although still within code tolerances). The decking and trim work is poor. Mitered joints don’t fit well, and angles aren’t tight. Even though there was no detailed architectural plan, MPC missed critical, common-sense details, like ensuring that the railing had a place to end. Some parts of the deck had to be framed a second time to account for these oversights. The decking is composite, and in many places, the unfinished cut ends of boards are visible. I was not consulted on the decision to trim this way. The stair trim is absolutely abysmal, and I'll be re-doing it with another contractor. Cuts aren't straight, and unfinished edges of the composite decking are visible everywhere. In addition, when using hidden fasteners, Trex decking is supposed to be cut flat and the ends butt together to allow the fasteners to hold. They cut the decking at an angle, so at almost every joint the fasteners don’t hold tight. To fix this they simply screwed the boards in — which defeats the purpose of the hidden fasteners. They also never plugged the holes. MPC ordered the wrong railings — or at least, the wrong ones were delivered — even though we had agreed on the specific product we wanted during the estimate. The one that showed up were a third of the price of the one in the original estimate, which seemed suspicious. They gave me multiple conflicting reasons about why they didn’t just get the railing I wanted, but I eventually insisted that they do that. By the time they went to order them -- four months after we had agreed on which ones would be used --we learned that stock had run out. All told, they spent 6 months on my project, and it is still not done. I would definitely not hire Michael Patrick Construction again, and I would not recommend them to anyone for any construction project at all. Although their price was very competitive, their work is extremely low quality, and they don't think ahead about details or consult or communicate well on decisions. The deck will wind up costing me about 30% more to finish then the original estimate, and I'll still be left with low quality framing and decking. UPDATE: because they didn't allow space for expansion, the deck boards are all starting to bulge. It will be difficult and expensive to fix.

The service went perfectly. It was better than expected for a 200 year old home. There were little to no issues. Any issue that they came across was immediately addressed all the while keeping me in the loop. They kept within the budget with the solutions to any issues that they came across. Then end result was beautiful. All this done before I had expected them to.

Michael Patrick Construction was great working with from start to finish. Matt met with my wife Michelle and I and we went over the details of the project with us and made the process very easy. The crew who built our deck were great. They showed up on time and were very polite and professional. Frank was the lead for the crew and he answered any questions I had and helped me out at the end of the project with getting our pool steps anchored to the new deck. We appreciate everything Michael Patrick Construction did for us. We can’t wait to enjoy the rest of summer soaking in the sunshine poolside! You guys are great! Look forward to working with you again in the future.

Michael Patrick Construction finished our basement. They did everything from drywall, flooring, adding a powder bath and finishing a built in bar. They were helpful in deciding finishes and listened to our requests. This was the second time we hired Mikes team for a project and would continue to use them for additional projects. Nicole
