"Working with Smith Power Group, Inc. was a very rewarding and mutually beneficial experience. The owner, Carlton, sat with us and explained the entire process and answered all of our questions. The office kept us informed concerning the necessary paperwork, permits, etc. On the day of installation the crew arrived on time and proceeded to install our generator without issues. We highly recommend SPG."

"We have been very pleased to use Raynor Services for installing new outlets in our home as well as yearly service to our heating system and electrical inspection of our electrical systems. Bob E. just left after inspecting our electric and offering some options for projects we plan next spring. The attention to customer satisfaction from Raynor has been exemplary. We can always reach a live polite person by phone, receive immediate attention, and on-time respectful technicians that clean up after they are done working. Bob E. was professional and yet cheerful and friendly in explaining options and costs to me this morning. Who could ask for anything more? We do pay $19 per month to insure our HVAC and electrical systems are safe and effective. Raynor is our trusted "go-to" company."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.

To fix a tripped light switch, locate your home's electrical panel and identify the tripped circuit breaker. It will be in the "off" or neutral position. Flip the breaker entirely to the "off" position, then switch it back to the "on" position. If the breaker trips again immediately, there may be a short circuit or overload in the system, requiring further investigation. If the switch still doesn't work after resetting the breaker, check for loose wires or faulty components in the switch itself. It is always best to consult a licensed electrician for persistent issues and when in doubt.

No, sconces don’t have to be hardwired, but they can be for a more permanent solution. Sconces come in various styles, sizes, and finishes as well as types of installation. Plug-in wall sconces can be plugged into a nearby outlet, and battery-powered sconces can be mounted to the wall.

While you might not need to put lights and outlets on separate circuits, some local codes may require that you use separate circuits. Installing a separate circuit helps prevent total darkness in your home when your receptacle outlets take on too much power and blow a fuse or trip the breaker. It also costs less and is easier to simply install a new circuit.

No, both switches do not need to be on for a 3-way switch to work. When the two switches are in opposite positions, the circuit is open and the light is off. Flipping either switch closes the circuit and turns the light on. So, either switch can turn the light off independently, and both switches do not need to be in the same position for the switch to function.
