"Smith Power Group are the best. Generator was installed, large enough to power the entire house, and it switched over automatically in the event of a power failure. I was completely satisfied with their work."

"Brian was awesome and fast and courteous. Princeton Electrical was easy to communicate and negotiate with, and offers a fair price for their labor. Had a Level 2 EV charger installed from my townhouse basement to my garage in a few hours without problems."

"Ken was hired to put a sub-panel in the garage, but he notice that rain was getting in the main panel. I hired him to replace the service coming down the side of the house, through the meter box and then the main panel and sub-panel. He did a great job. He was clean and neat and he worked around my work-from-home needs to electricity. He did the service and main panel on a Saturday and I had minimal power disruption. He is friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely hire him again."

"Ron & Brandon came the same day. Sized up the rather small job. Ran the wiring and installed the range hood which the original installers left undone. Cleaned up and were gone in an hour. I would rehire and recommend Spotlight again. Jim N."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Carbon monoxide emissions aren’t only dangerous to human life, but they also harm our planet. While natural gas generators emit lower levels of CO than other fuel sources, there are still ways to reduce emission levels. For example, shop around for an eco-friendly generator that complies with current emission standards. Also, make sure your generator is serviced regularly to avoid CO buildup.

If you’re deciding between a solar battery versus a generator for the best backup power solution, you can take a few factors into consideration. Solar batteries are quiet while generators can be quite loud. Generators have a lower up-front cost, but they require fuel and ongoing maintenance while solar batteries are more expensive but don’t have many ongoing costs.

A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.
