"Here's a polished version of your review for the tile installer: --- I hired Custom Tile Work to install my backsplash, based on a recommendation from the tile store where I made my purchase. Vince did an outstanding job. He was meticulous with every cut, cleaned up each day, and was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Custom Tile Work for any tile installation needs."

"We are thrilled with our remodeled bathroom! It’s a small room but the team came in and transformed the space into something beautiful. They handled all aspects from tile removal and breakdown through installing new shower, fixtures, tile and paint. They were punctual, professional and thorough. Great job - we will work with them again when we start our next project."

"Gabe and his crew turned our nightmare into a dream. We had a contractor who botched the job and Gabe came in and made sure everything was done correctly and beautifully. I highly recommend him, his electrician and plumber. Gabe even recommended a glass company who fabricated and installed custom glass for the shower. Another excellent company RCG Glass!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"Tom is a master craftsman, with impressive work ethic. Tom showed up at exactly 8 AM and worked diligently all day. His work product was excellent, having measured and installed a replacement tile floor and curb with a perfect fit - allowing replacement of custom frameless glass doors that had only 1/8 inch variation. (The original glass company did the removal / installation of the glass panels.) I would hire Tom again and heartily recommend him to others."

"Ryan was absolutely AMAZING!! He’s so polite, knowledgeable and respectful. I had a hand made tile for my backsplash and Ryan pointed out inconsistencies and I had to have the tile all remade. His attention to detail is what saved me and now it looks amazing. He’s clean and wiped up all my floors and honestly was a pleasure to have in my home. I can’t say enough good things about him but more importantly how trilled I am with the job he did, you will NOT be disappointed."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.

Replacing tile flooring can take a few days for a pro, but larger rooms will need more time. It takes eight to 12 hours for a tiling pro to remove old grout and tiles across 100 square feet. Then, it will take about four hours to prep the subfloor for tiles and another eight to 10 hours for a pro to install new tiles. Your tiling project may take up to a week, depending on the size of the room.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Porcelain tiles can last 60 years or longer. With high-quality tiles and proper installation, your porcelain tiles may even outlive you, making them well worth the initial investment.

To help your porcelain tiles last longer, you should clean and maintain them regularly. You don’t need any harsh chemicals to get the job done. Rather, use a cloth, hot water, and mild detergent. And don’t forget to learn how to clean floor tile grout, as that’s just as important as tile maintenance.
