"Proud Work Ethics, LLC did a great job of power washing and staining my deck. Although we had changes to our original plan, Bob went with the flow and made sure I was satisfied with the outcome, Bob is a real professional, whom I feel goes out of his way to satisfy is customers. I would hire Bob again and highly recommend him to others."

"We had obtained 3 bids from local companies. Wilber's was in the middle. We picked them because of impression we got on their interest in the job and professionalism. Danny did the estimate. Most of the infraction we had was with Melvin who acted as foreman. The interaction with him and his willingness to do a perfect job with his crew was outstanding. Although they underestimated the amount of work it would take to do the deck part they did overall an excellent job. Initially they tried to only chemically strip the deck and power wash. However power washing the red cedar was not the best idea. Ultimately they had to sand down the deck and railings completely to repair damage from power washing and to prepare for the stain. They also worked though weekends to get the job done and make best use of the variable weather in April. We would recommend Wilber's and use them again."

"Eric refinished our garage door and back porch steps which were in rough shape. He also painted the trim and shutters. It was a big job and required a lot of sanding, scraping and putty work. We are very happy with his work. He takes his time, does careful prep and paints neatly. No slops on the windows. The garage door and steps look like new. We will use him again. He is honest and trustworthy. A week later we asked him to come back and refinish our 60-year-old knotty pine kitchen cabinets. He did a fantastic job on him and they look like new now"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

When applying multiple coats, wait four to six hours for each coat to dry. Not waiting long enough can result in streaks, peeling, and uneven color. Plus, it will be more difficult to discern where the second coat has already been applied.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.
