"Excellent work. I had a number of different clean/repair tasks and all were completed to satisfaction. Communication was outstanding and work was done on time, as promised. The initial estimate provided was very detailed, outlining exactly what would be done. CFI was not the cheapest estimate I received, but the detailed estimate gave me good confidence nothing was left out and the work would be dome to my specs.  I am now going to use CFI for a more extensive bathroom remodeling project."

"BAS Construction, lead by Sina and Ali, were collaborative from the start and my wife and I really found working with them easy compared to other contractors.  They spent quite a bit of time discussing our needs, providing ideas and finalizing the plans.
First, and foremost, they have excellent communication - phone, email and text - even Skype when we were away and needed to see the Ditra Heat work.  They responded quickly to my requests and confirmed everything in writing - making the final punch list a painless process for a change.
Second, they worked with us on the estimate and the planning, dealing well with our budget, schedule and design expectations.
- The French drain was a concern, we wanted to confirm it could be filled in before committing to that plan.  They brought in a masonry sub who inspected the job and said it was doable.  The final result looked really good too.
- They had never worked with Ditra Heat before but had no issue with it - other contractors would only work with their brand.  They did their homework before hand and the installation works great.
- The closet and room doors were huge - 93" high and 34" wide.  Big and heavy!  We worked with the supplier to spec the track system and all the doors work well.
Third, they really do back up their work.  No job goes completely perfectly and BAS dealt with the issues responsibly. The schedule had to be adjusted because I made an error ordering the Ditra Heat product, delaying things a couple weeks.  Also, we had some issues with their painter and both Sina and Ali came in and finished the job themselves.
Sina and Ali both worked on the final punch list and regularly solicited feedback and confirmation that the results were what we were expecting. The job finally wrapped up and we were thrilled with the end results!  The heated floor is amazing and the custom sliding doors to close off the room look and work great.
We will be doing more work with BAS in the future and have already recommended them to a few friends."

Customers say: Quick response

"Bill Farley called within a couple hours after my inquiry was submitted with Home Advisor. He came out and completed a survey of the project. He helped me to confirm the location/orientation of the tank and leaching pits, he provided sound advise and directions on what was needed next to reach our intended goal. He saved us a significant amount of money by freely providing meaningful information and directions on what to do next and how to go about it. I will definitely use William Farley to complete my project after doing the work he recommended that I do before having him come back."

Customers say: Terrific value

"The Green Mountain Builders team did a fantastic job on my bathroom remodeling project. I had two bathrooms completely remodeled and Steve, the project manager, kept me informed all the way and checked to make sure I was happy with the progress . The main remodelers, Jovon and Al, were outstanding and true professionals as they delivered the new bathrooms exactly as how I wanted it. I would highly recommend Green Mountain Builders to anyone looking to upgrade their home!"

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

There are products that still contain asbestos, but they were typically installed decades ago. Common places where you may still find asbestos-containing materials are in siding, wrapped around ductwork, in older appliances (i.e., stove and gravity furnaces), and in floors. Asbestos was primarily used as an insulator, so anywhere in an older home where you lose heat is where you will most likely find asbestos.

Unlike some home problems, such as water damage or pest infestations, asbestos can be very difficult to spot. Asbestos is a mineral in the form of microscopic fibers and was previously used in building materials for its bonding and fireproofing abilities. Insulation, roof shingles, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, pipe wrappings, soundproofing materials, and textured paint features like popcorn ceilings are common sources of asbestos, particularly in homes built before 1980.

Age is perhaps the biggest indicator of asbestos, as legislation passed in the 1970s labeled asbestos as dangerous and regulated its use in building materials. Signs of age in the form of wear and tear or material degradation are also indicators that asbestos fibers may be leaking into the air, but ultimately, it’s difficult to detect with the naked eye. If you have reason to suspect asbestos in your home, it’s best to hire a certified asbestos inspector.

If you hire a dedicated asbestos inspector near you in addition to your local home inspector, it will cost between $200 and $800. If, however, your general home inspector happens to be certified as an asbestos inspector, they can charge you a smaller fee and tack on the cost to the home inspection. In general, home inspectors do not do physical testing, but will provide a visual assessment so you know what you are working with.

Unfortunately, asbestos is not easily identified and can often be hidden in plain sight in your home. While it can look like fluffy fibers, tiny pieces can also appear in materials like plastic or cement, making it impossible to identify on your own properly.

Plus, since asbestos is so dangerous when disturbed, you should never root around to try and find it. This job is best for a professional who can test for the material properly.

No, not all popcorn ceilings have asbestos, but a vast majority do. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned its use in 1973, although it still may have been used up through the early ‘90s. But, in general, homes built or remodeled before the early ‘80s likely utilized materials with asbestos. That being said, a professional test is the only way to determine for sure.
