"They wowed me last year with the installation of our holiday lights, from getting a quote to the day they uninstalled the lights. Everyone is extremely professional and punctual. They all stand behind their work and the dedication is evident. But I just HAD to come and review them right now because they go above and beyond for their customers. They returned last week for this year's lighting and again were punctual and following the instructions from last year to the tee. However, my elderly stepdad made the mistake of cutting a cord while tending to the lawn yesterday. I was embarrassed to contact Midas, but also understand that mistakes happen and simply hoped for the best. I thought the installers might be dispatched some time next week or so... and instead they came TONIGHT! I am floored, just floored at the exceptional work these men do. I am EXTREMELY happy I chose Midas for my holiday lighting and HIGHLY recommend them for your needs, too!"

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Heavy amounts of snow could be a problem. In many climates, lots of snow on your rooftop can lead to freeze-thaw cycle that create ice dams, which can damage rooftops. But if you’re using shingle clips, this snow poses an additional problem: As it melts and freezes, it can easily dislodge clips you’ve placed on your roof.

You can clean snow off your roof after a fresh snowfall while it’s still lightweight, but brushing off snow can also dislodge your clips. If you get a lot of snow, then roof clips become less viable.

Safe installation involves using appropriate anchors for weight and weather-resistant fixtures, ensuring all connections are secure and safe from water exposure. Removal should be performed carefully, avoiding pulling or yanking on cables to prevent damage to lighting and home exteriors.

Take a picture of your house to easily replicate the same design for next year and keep the clips and accessories. When storing your lights, wrap them around cardboard so they don’t get tangled. Purchase a ladderless extension pole kit to hang your lights (around $30 to $50) for hard to reach areas.

In the Christmas days of yore, people braved winter weather to staple or tack their Christmas lights onto their rooftops or nearby surfaces like the fascia boards. Problems quickly emerged with that approach. Damage to the roof, even small marks from staples, provides entryways for moisture and similar issues that can hasten roof rot, wear, and associated leaks. Plus, some homes had tough fiber cement boards or other materials where staples and screws didn’t work.

Yes, you can hang Christmas lights from the soffit of your roof, but it requires a bit more effort than hanging from the gutters or eaves. You’ll need to add an adhesive hook or tie to the underside of the soffit to keep the lights in place. Consider adding a soffit hook every 12 to 18 inches for best visual results.
