"I was extremely reluctant to install a drainage system to solve our backyard flooding issue but Ed convinced me. He was extremely knowledgeable and made me feel like our problem could finally get solved. A few months later we have a nice lawn for the first time since we bought the house!"

"Crew arrived right on time. Did everything I asked. Trimmed Hedges, cleaned up weeds and small trees that started to grow in my yards. Removed trunk of tree. Worked n my neighbors side of the hedges and left her and my yard in pristine condition. I am so pleased I most likely will have them return to fix back steps fix patio. I would happy to encourage people to use this company for all your yard work and landscape needs. Bruce is friendly and affable. Extremely easy to work with. First experience with Home Advisor and Donovanâ s Lawn and Landscaping, Inc. was a hit out of the park."

Lawns FAQs, answered by experts

Small amounts of geese are actually good for the environment. They help spread seeds and lead to more plant growth, but they’re often an invasive species, particularly Canadian geese. This means a small gaggle can quickly grow into a level that litters your lawn with bald patches and excrement.

No, cleaning dog poop off artificial grass is straightforward. First, you’ll remove all the solid poop and place it in a bag. Then, you’ll use a homemade liquid dish soap and water solution to help wash and sanitize the area. Finally, you’ll hose the area with water to remove the soapy solution and odor.

While you don’t need to put anything down before mulch, you can apply a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent weed growth. As long as you remove weeds before you spread mulch, you should be in the clear. But a herbicide is something that you can put down before mulch as an extra layer of protection.

To remove old grass effectively, you typically need to dig to one to two inches. This depth typically allows you to reach the root system of the grass, ensuring thorough removal. However, if the grass is a particularly dense or deep-rooted variety (such as Bermuda grass), or if you're planning to replace it with a different landscaping feature, you may need to dig deeper to loosen the soil and remove any underlying roots.

A standard home lawn mower with sharp blades can handle a thin layer of leaves without issue. You may need to make a couple of passes within several days to mulch leaves down, but your mower shouldn’t struggle. If your mower comes with a mulching kit, like an attachment to blow leaves out the side, that’s a good sign it’s ready for fall leaves. Set your mower to the highest or near-highest height for this project so it focuses on the leaves rather than the grass below.
