"I can not say enough good things about Kurt and Duckey’s! I had a major problem with my sewer line. It was compounded by my having a very sick wife (cancer) and the absolute need for fast and reliable work. Kurt responded within a half hour (!) and found and fixed the problem right away. He was great to work with and incredibly professional. I give Duckey’s my absolute highlight recommendation!"

"Not only are they knowledgable and professional, but for matters of sewer line 'issues', all the Pipe Works' techs we've had are THE BEST. Quick to the scene. Informative on the options. Understanding of the 'nature' of the problem too. It's not often you can say this about professionals in any field let alone plumbing experts dealing with sewer lines.... these guys are compassionate. THE CALL to keep matters of 'your household business' flowing!"

"Kyle was quick to respond , he was courteous & professional. He listened to the 4 concerns I had & addressed the quickly cleanly & professionally . Upon completion he cleaned up & actually left the room cleaner than before he started . He did more than a simple drain cleaning , he reintalled a pedestal sink which had been removed to have a new bathroom floor installed & repaired a toilet tank which began to leak after the painter leaned on the tank to paint around & behibd it , plus he installed a new medicine cabinet for me when i asked him if he could please do it because my back was hurting. I would highly recommend Kyle to ANYONE needing any service he provides . Thank you Kyle !!"

"The sinks are draining well. The stopper is fixed. The toilet was unclogged, but got clogged again the next day. Had to pour Ajax, and let it sit overnight to unclog the toilet again. That is the reason I have given a B, rather than an A"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can have a toilet without a septic tank. However, it will have to be a composting toilet. Composting toilets work similarly to aerobic septic systems in that the waste, which sits in a separate compartment below the toilet itself, is slowly broken down by aerobic bacteria. These toilets typically have a vent to get rid of harmful gasses with a fan, which requires a battery. You will have to dispose of waste in the toilet manually every three weeks to every three months, depending on how many people are using the toilet.

The cost to install a new toilet typically runs from $225 to $530. This doesn’t include the price of the toilet itself, which can cost $90 to $1,500 depending on the model and features you choose. You can save money if you choose to install a toilet yourself. However, you might want to hire a pro for this project.

"Due to the many complexities of replacing a toilet flange, it is typically a job best left to the pros," says Jeff Botelho, Angi Expert Review Board member and plumber. "Many times it isn't as simple and straightforward as 'pop off the old one and pop on a new one' because the flange is either glued on (PVC/ABS), soldered on (brass/copper), or caulked in place with a lead & oakum joint (cast iron) and none of these things can be easily reversed without years of training and repetitive practice."

If you have to hold the toilet handle (also called the toilet lever) down to flush, you probably have a chain problem. A chain that cannot fully lift the flapper will close too early and not clear the toilet bowl. Try adjusting the chain length so there’s about ½ inch of slack.

The toilet flange anchors to the subfloor, usually with wood screws or cement screws, but most of it should sit above floor level at full height. When a flange is flush with the subfloor or below it, it can lead to the creation of leak paths.

When working on your bathroom floor tiling, you should always tile the floor first and then refit the toilet afterward. This has both practical and visual advantages—the tile will have a better seal, and the installation will look cleaner.

On the other hand, when you try to cut the tiles to fit around the toilet, you’re putting yourself at a disadvantage. It’s a lot more work, it’s hard to be precise, and mistakes or miscalculations can lead to future moisture damage to the tiling, grout, and subfloor.
