"Township requires architect plan so decided to go ahead with Joseph. He is very good in understanding the layout of home the moment he steps in. He proved to me that there are hvac lines passing through wall and also suggested me options how to tackle it. I would hire him again for sure."

"We decided to restructure and remodel our first floor plan, which included our kitchen, three bathrooms, dining room, and family room. After interviewing several contractors and architects, we decided to move forward with Anthony and his company. He and his employees are very knowledgeable and creative. We are truly happy with the end result. The pricing was very reasonable and the creativity was fantastic. We already recommended them to family and friends. Next year we will be hiring them again to do our exterior kitchen."

Architects questions, answered by experts

The process involves initial consultation, concept development, detailed planning, regulatory approvals, and integration of contractor work for project execution.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.

Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.

In the United States, architects must be licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia before being allowed to practice or seek business. Licensing requirements vary state-to-state, but overall the architect must be educated, attain a certain level of experience, submit to and pass an examination, and register as an architect. Find out if your architect is licensed using Angi’s contractor licensing search tool
