"I liked everything about my interactions with Nick Tracy Roofing. From my first visit from Brian to go over my roof estimate, getting the estimate, and getting my whole new roof in one day. My place was left spotless today after they all left and it was a very professional team managed by Rick who kept me up to date on every detail throughout the day. Very happy with the result and I would strongly recommend them for any roofing Job!"

"I personally liked the sales pitch. There was not one. Assessed the roof size, quoted a price, texted a flyer with materials to be used, I picked a shingle color, signed a contract on line and the deal was done. This company arrived on time, completed on a timely schedule and did a nice job, cleaned up, removed the dumpster and I paid. No drama. Price was excellent. Thanks, guys!"

"I had shingles blow off the roof this winter. They were very good about keeping track of the weather and repaired the roof as soon as the snow was gone. They came over fixed the roof, cleaned up and were gone. Very good service."

"Called me right away, we talked, he set up time to look at the what I needed and had the job done with a week, added four roof vents to provide better attic ventilation, my hip roof ridge vent was totally inadequate from a roofing job done a long time ago, still have plenty of life left with my roof, and now trapped heat in my attic on hot days can escape."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.

Yes, thatched roofs are legal in most areas in the U.S., but you should always check your local building codes to ensure there are no restrictions in your particular area before installing one. Even where they are legal, you’ll usually need to apply fireproofing to the roof to keep it up to code. Keep in mind that a new roof might not increase home value as much if you choose a thatched roof, as they aren’t common in the U.S. and might not be as desirable to many home buyers.

Manufacturers, insurance companies, and municipality regulations are phasing out three-tab shingles. Because of their short lifespan and lack of durability compared to other roofing material types, manufacturers are leaning toward better products, and cities and insurers are starting to require better building materials overall. However, 3-tab shingles are still for sale, and some roofing companies still install them.

Shingle roofing can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years, depending on the type and quality of shingle, your local climate, and how well you maintain your roof. If you live in an area that sees extreme weather, like strong winds, hail storms, or hurricanes, the average life span of a shingle roof will often be on the shorter end, especially if you choose a more affordable roof shingle that isn’t designed to persist through extreme weather.

The most crucial roof-strengthening method is achievable by following proper construction methods and guidelines from the start. To strengthen an existing roof, framers and DIYers can add hurricane ties or straps to the structure, sister rafters and other framing or truss members, or install additional fasteners or adhesives where necessary.
