ABC Energy Savers offers independent energy consulting on your home. Unlike an insulation company just wanting you to add insulation or window companies just wanting to sell you new windows. ABC Energy Savers was founded in 2013 by Bob Eldredge, who has years of experience helping 100s of home and small business owners reduce their energy costs and have a more comfortable building. Energy improvements are frequently funded by utility energy programs (pay for 50% of insulation and related energy improvements) and other financial incentives, and the company works hard to make sure you get the rebates and other financial incentives. It all starts with a home energy audit to put together a comprehensive plan to reduce your energy usage and costs, and ensure your home will be healthy and safe.

"Very cooperative and suggested ways to save money"

"Set up an appointment for an initial 10 minute phone call to talk about what we wanted. Tom ended up spending 25 minutes with us and answered a ton of questions. We subsequently set up an appointment for an initial pre-build inspection of the foundation, framing, roof, and windows. Tom was very thorough. He obviously knew his stuff. Pointed out several items that needed addressing before the insulation and walls went up. Couldn’t be happier with the amount of time he spent, how thorough he was and how much he listened to all my stupid questions and answered them in a language that I could understand. We will have him back before the next phase starts and probably a couple more times before we close. Anyone building a house or buying a new home would be wise to hire Tom. Great piece of mind and cheap insurance. Plus, he’s a really nice guy to boot."

NON-PROFIT organization. Save on heating oil with local dealers, all year long. Our Heating Oil Service works like a buyers club or co-op for home heating oil and is available to most households in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire. We use the group buying power of our 11,000 members to negotiate a discounted price per gallon with vetted oil dealers every day of the year. How it works: 1. Enroll in the program and pay your annual membership dues ($25 for a basic 1-year membership). 2. Once you’ve enrolled, we pair you up with one of the oil dealers in our network that meets your delivery, payment, and service preferences. 3. Every time you receive a delivery from your new Mass Energy oil dealer, you get the discounted member price per gallon instead of the price they charge their regular customers. That's it! As a bonus, we'll help you save even more on energy by helping you make smart decisions around energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. (Formerly doing business in Massachusetts as Mass Energy and in Rhode Island as People's Power & Light.)

"Always pleasant interactions with staff. You can tell that they are proud of what they do and are genuinely invested in the company’s causes."

"Review for Thomas Coolberth on July 5, 2025. Had another leak on the master board of my OB 2000. Thomas installed half a board until the master board could be replaced. There is antifreeze in the water which has to be replaced. Thomas was very friendly, explaining the problem in layman’s terms and; quickly offered a temporary fix of the problem during July 4 th weekend. Highly recommend his service."

FAQs for energy efficiency auditing projects in Hopkinton, NH

An energy audit costs about $420 on average, ranging from $100 to $2,250, depending on the size of your home, property, location, and the tests the auditor needs to perform. Keep in mind that the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act’s Energy Efficient Home Improvement credit covers up to $150 of home energy audit costs. Common energy audit tests include:

  • Blower door test: $350

  • Duct testing: $100

  • HERS test: $375

  • HERS certification: $200

  • Infrared imaging: $200

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

Typically, a local home energy auditor is responsible for performing energy audits. A home energy auditor will conduct one of three energy audits designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to determine the energy efficiency of your home. The auditor often provides analysis that can help guide changes and improvements to your home for better energy efficiency, giving recommendations as necessary.

The three levels of home energy audits include:

  • Level 1: Review of your energy bills and home for signs of energy inefficiency and areas for improvement. The average cost range is $0.08 to $0.12 per square foot.

  • Level 2: A level 2 ASHRAE energy audit costs $0.12 and $0.35 per square foot. In-depth analysis of your energy usage and provides a report of cost-saving changes.

  • Level 3: Comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations for ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A level 3 audit costs about $0.36 to $0.50 per square foot.

To find a reputable energy auditor, find a local company that offers energy audit services. Research the company’s reviews, methods, and certifications to find a reliable professional in your area. The most reputable energy audit companies are HEP-certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local energy auditor guidelines to ensure you’re hiring a certified professional.
