"They did an excellent assessment, were good listeners for our goals, gave us updates as to when the custom windows would arrive, installed promptly and expertly respecting our time limits due to our children's nap schedule, cleaned up, communicated with us through the installation, and we have had reductions in our energy bill since the installation.

"It was going to take longer than the hours in the deal and they gave us an accurate estimate for that. They also found an issue with one of our steps that needed to be fixed. Their prices seemed rather high, but they did a professional job and gave us accurate estimates. It ended up costing several times the special deal that we bought, but got us to do some maintenance work we had been putting off."

"Carl was very responsive by email and set up an appointment to see the yard. He arrived on time and was very pleasant and professional. A week later he called to say that the company was over scheduled with old clients and they would not be able to service me."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

ENERGY STAR®-certified windows are the most energy-efficient windows on the market. This certification means that the window meets strict efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. While they might cost more upfront, they can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. ENERGY STAR®-certified windows lower household energy bills by an average of 12% annually.

Smart glass doesn’t use a lot of electricity, and you can expect a standard window to add between $1 and $2 per year to your electric bills. Smart glass is proof that energy-efficient windows work. Although your smart windows may consume a little energy to operate, they can save enough energy to offset the costs. If you’re concerned about the minimal bump to your electricity consumption, you can opt for smart tint, which doesn’t require electricity to work.

String lights require electricity, but not an excessive amount, especially when compared to other lighting fixtures. LED rope lights, for instance, consume around one watt per foot. Running six or seven light strings simultaneously should only cost you around $10 to $15 each month. You can save even more money by remembering to turn off your lights during daylight hours.

Fireplaces can theoretically help you save on heating bills if you lower the temperature throughout the rest of your home and heat only a single room that you occupy using the fireplace. However, in most cases, homeowners won’t save any money on heating bills. Gas and electric fireplace inserts could actually lead to a spike in your respective energy bills if you use them frequently, and if you don’t keep up with chimney maintenance and repairs, your traditional masonry fireplace could actually be a source of heat loss in the winter.

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.
