Small jobs welcome

I have spent the last four years remodeling and constructing new buildings, working for other companies such as Hausmann Construction and Samsung Construction—including on the renovation of the football stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have carried out renovations of churches and schools, as well as basements, garages, bathrooms, and kitchens. Now, I have established my own company, and I am ready to apply all my expertise to grow my business.

"

Marathon did an excellent job all around.  My 18 year old roof was at the end of its life so I asked for a bid.  The owner came out and noted that I had hail damage, and recommended that I contact my insurance company.  Sure enough it was covered, which I didn't expect for such an old roof, and this saved me over $12,000 on my $13,500 roof and skylight replacement.  Because their initial bid didn't have the level of detail I wanted, and because Marathon was working with my insurance company to cover more of the damage, I ended up asking Marathon to come out 3 different times.  Each time they were very polite and entirely professional.

I'm so happy with their work that I'm currently getting two more bids from them to replace our windows and the front porch.  Having worked with countless contractors in my lifetime Marathon was definitely top notch, and deserve an A rating.

"I purchased this deal and didn't realize that there was going to be so much extra cost and the deal wasn't going to cover everything that I needed. In fact the provider told me it would be about $5000 more on top of the $1000 credit."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Removing a load-bearing wall is best handled by professionals. However, if you have the skill set and decide to DIY the project, you will still need at least one additional person to assist you. Aside from helping with demolition, you'll need another hand to install the new support beam.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.
