"Tough call. JP lawn care is friendly and hard working. However my experience with them was disappointing. I hired them to clean up my yard pre-sale. We walked through what plants should stay. Jarrett did a great job of clearing the weeds and mulching. But he also removed the exact established plants I want to keep. That mistake diminished my curb appeal, which will impact sales price. He was open to adjusting the price and apologetic but that doesn?t change the lost ? value."

"Nick Murdock took care of my lawn and backyard and did an excellent job. Although the weather was a challenge, Nick monitored every hour and showed up at the earliest window of sunshine ☀️ Nick has been very prompt, a keen listener, took time to explain various options specific to my lawn. His approach, and his communication are highly professional. The quality of work is excellent!"

"The crew showed up, busted their butts, and took my lawn from Sanford and Son to Augusta National in 1 day. They did EXACTLY what I had requested in the estimate and kept me informed throughout the whole process. The Sod man charged me almost $1000 less than the other estimates and performed the exact same service, removed existing grass, regraded entire work area, spread topsoil, and laid the sod. They were very clear and precise in their watering instructions and cleaned up everything, I didn't have to lift a finger. I would absolutely recommend The Sod Man to anyone looking to re-sod their yard, if you hire someone else, you do so at your own peril."

"I cannot thank these folks enough for the fantastic customer service and tree removal. Their employees were prompt, courteous, and knew their how to do their jobs. They cleaned up the tree & limbs as they came down with ease. There was no unexpected damage to the lawn either. They did an absolute great job in cleaning the debris perfectly. I will and have provided Rigging Tree Service when asked who I would recommend. Kudos to Tony, Tasha, and the Team. Thanks to All."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

The frequency of gardening service visits depends on two significant factors—the service and your budget. If you’re a gardening DIYer and only need someone to check on your plant's health quality, you might not need many visits throughout the year. However, if you love the idea of a garden but don't have the time or patience to plant, water, and maintain your garden, you might need weekly visits (or more, depending on the weather).

Chiggers thrive in overgrown lawns, so regular mowing will deter these annoying mites. It may not remove every single chigger, however, so follow that up with weeding and trimming any nearby trees and bushes. Pay special attention to moist, shady spots, as these are a chigger’s preferred habitat. When all else fails, sprinkle your yard with diatomaceous earth. It kills chiggers by dehydrating their exoskeletons. Diatomaceous earth is basically ground-up shells, so there’s no risk of injury to animals.

In general, expect to mulch your leaves about once or twice every fall. You want there to be a decent amount of leaves on the ground, but not too much where it’s difficult for the mower to cut through.

Stick to your watering schedule. As long as new grass is getting plenty of water from irrigation, it shouldn’t need watering right after you cut it. Watch for signs like yellowing grass that shows a new lawn isn’t getting enough water and needs more regular irrigation. If you want to water after mowing, wait until the afternoon. Hot, direct sunlight can scorch grass more easily when it’s wet, so it’s better to wait until the day has cooled off.

Both zoysia grass and bermuda grass are somewhat similar to St. Augustine because they’re all warm-season grasses. Beyond that, most grass types have unique properties that set them apart. Zoysia grass costs twice the price of St. Augustine grass on average and it has thinner blades and a deeper green appearance. Bermuda grass, compared to St. Augustine, has much thinner blades, is softer to the touch, and has a higher tolerance for colder weather.
