"Beware of shipping issues with this company. Ordered an ice maker installation kit on 10/10/25. Shipping was due no later than 10/20 according to company and FedEx tracking. FedEx tracking showed the package at their facility for 8 days without moving beginning on 10/15. Called FedEx 3 times. Each time they said they cannot find package and I have to contact shipper. Shipper has to make a claim, they will not mark it as lost. Called Appliance Parts Pros twice. Each time they say FedEx has to mark package lost before they will do anything. They also state they have to wait 14 days from them before doing anything because of their contract with FedEx. I don't care about their contract, I want what was ordered and paid for. Just going in circles with them and FedEX. If they shipped after 14 days it would be 22 days from that point, 32 days from the date of order if they shipped it that day. There was a deadline for installing this part before tenants arrive. They did not care, would not m"

"I have owned four units installed by this company; all of which were manufactured by Trane. Two of which had to be replaced for early failure. Now a third has broken down after less than 5 years, well within the 10 year parts warranty. Despite the parts being covered the repair cost was still thousands of dollars. After researching others experiences and information about this model online I discovered other problems and concerns and found some of them to be present with my unit as well. I was worried about paying for this repair only to have another part breakdown. I asked Comfort Master if it might be better to replace the whole unit. According to Trane’s own website calculator (cost of repairs multiplied by the age in years of the unit) I should be replacing the unit based on the main issue alone. I was told by Comfort Master that they were unable to address these concerns and to contact Trane directly. When I contacted Trane, customer service started a claim and told me to get a “diagnosis for a new unit” from my service provider. This is where the problems really started. Comfort Master claimed they did not know what this was and that it was not needed. After a number of emails trying to clarify they told me that they had contacted Trane who told them that this was not needed. When I called Trane they would tell me the same information, a diagnosis of new unit, was needed. The Comfort Master employee went so far as to claim I might not have called the correct place asking who I spoke with on these calls. I kept records of each call and eventually it was agreed that I needed an assessment of the current unit to verify its condition. The previous service record having almost no info about the condition of the unit, I asked about getting another. I was told that they would not do so since the current problem had to be fixed first. So I have to spend the money to fix the problem in order to find out if the unit is any good to keep. After many years of as a customer and many promises of providing the best customer focused service and conviction that “you can’t stop a Trane” I am done with both companies. Fool me once, twice, and I guess three times the charm."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Beyond having an inspection, it’s important to do chimney maintenance at least annually to be certain the chimney is safe to use. Cleaning the flue of any built-up particles, creosote, and soot reduces the risk of fire. Fortunately, the cost of hiring a pro to do a chimney inspection often includes a chimney cleaning, so you may not have an extra expense for maintenance.

Sap, despite its stickiness, is primarily made of water and is responsible for wood being “green” when it’s first cut. Green wood doesn’t burn very easily and will snap and crackle a lot, not ideal for a fire pit or fireplace. That’s why it’s best to let fresh, sap-filled wood season or dry out for at least a season before you start burning.

Burning wood and wood products such as pellets create carbon monoxide that’s poisonous to humans and pets. Pellet stoves need to vent to the outside through an approved vent or chimney to expel the exhaust.

Yes, you can install a liner in an old chimney that is in good working condition. In fact, it's often necessary for safety and efficiency. Older chimneys may lack liners or have deteriorated ones, leading to heat damage, gas leaks, or reduced performance. Installing a stainless steel, clay tile, or cast-in-place liner improves safety, protects the chimney’s structure, and boosts energy efficiency. This upgrade can extend the life span of an old chimney while meeting modern safety standards.

Yes, you can put a freestanding one in a corner if you’re tight on space. Because pellet stoves don’t get as hot as other types of wood stoves, there only needs to be 3 inches of clearance from the wall on each side. Placing it in a corner should not impact the ventilation—you’ll still need to follow safety precautions by not installing too close to a window. Typically, it’s 4 feet from a window or 18 inches if the stove uses an external air source for combustion. Always check the owner’s manual for specific instructions.
