The latest was to repair some water damage above the garage door created by a piece of flashing not positioned correctly. I contacted Brian and emailed a few pictures showing the issue. We scheduled a date and time that Brian and his team would meet with us. After seeing the issue and the cause his team went to work resolving the problem at no cost to us. The problem is now
resolved and looks like it did when the job was completed 2.5 ago.
The service we have received from DH Construction has been excellent from day one and still now 2.5 years later. This type of service confirms our first impression of Brian that he is an honorable and trust worthy man that I highly recommend.
"Thank you very much for your review! If we can ever be of service in the future please let us know!"
DH Construction was not the lowest bid we received. However, it was easily the best choice given the excellent job they did. They use superior materials, including paint and wrapping the house in rainguard to let the house breathe while keeping moisture out. The work was top notch and the house looks great. We found the usual facia that needs to be replaced and a rotten window frame and base sill of the house. All taken care of by Brian and his crew (at extra cost of course). We didn't have to call any other contractors, including people to replace the gutters. They even blind nailed the siding where ever we didn't have 2x4 crowning problems due to the house's original construction.
If you want to go with the lowest bid somewhere else, watch out for one layer of inexpensive paint, little prep and priming, schedule delays, extra cost for electrical connections, confusing billing, face nailing everything, not wrapping the house in rainguard, higher cost to replace rotten wood, poor workmanship and shoddy cleanup. You get what you pay for.
We highly recommend Brian Howell and D H Construction.
"Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. There is no good, better or best with us, only right or wrong. You told me initially that you were a picky customer, I'm glad we pleased you! We enjoyed working for you and are here if you need us!"
As the job started my husband and I were very nervous with the amount of money the project would cost and we knew that there was a high probability of damage that we couldn't see. However, our nerves began to subside and we began to see that Brian and his team were dedicated to doing a quality job while providing the most information to us as possible. They uncovered termite damage at the garage, rot on a sil joist, and rot around our window, however, they always took the time to explain the problem, possible solutions and discussed the costs of replacing with us prior to proceeding. His team was very quick to respond to any concerns that we had and when we asked Brian to come out and discuss one of the repairs he was at our house at 7 am the next day so we could discuss it. He was quick to return any phone calls and always wanted to make sure as a customer we were satisfied with the outcome. His team was very flexible and completed additional work that we added on to the original quote such as replacing our soffits, covering our vented gables (due to a new vented roof), and painting our shed. All which he quickly agreed to complete without any hesitation. All of his crews that came to the house to work were fantastic, they are experts at their job and worked hard the whole time they were here.
We have had several complements on the house since it was complete and my husband keeps stating that house is more structurally sound today than it was 17 years ago when he bought it.
We are more than happy with the quality and service that DH Construction provided. Brian constantly stated throughout the process that he wanted us to be completely satisfied with the final product and we couldn't be more happy. Brian's commitment to quality and reassuring words made us feel like our satisfaction was the highest priority throughout the entire process.
The absolute best thing about this entire process was the way Brian treated us throughout the job. We started out looking for a contractor but truly believe that we have found a friend.
"Thank you for taking the time to post a review for us! As we discussed, a lot of times it is the rot that causes headaches, allergies, etc. due to the particulates in the air from the rot. Now that it has been extracted and properly repaired, your home is now better than new and the air quality should be superb! We enjoyed working for you and thank you for choosing us! We are just a phone call or email away if you need us! Sincerely, DHC"
the trim and new siding.
A little over a year later, we needed to replace our roof. Again, we called on Brian. He provided a quote and as of the end of October, 2013 we have a new roof. We went with Landmark shingles.
Bottom line we are extremely happy with the new roof and siding. Brian and his team were very professional. They answered our questions, explained options and even did a great job cleaning up after the job was done.
"Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review! We try our best to be the company that people want to deal with. We enjoyed working for you!"
Once the crew started, in mid-May, they started with a bang. They started removing the old, rotting wood siding and had every bit of it down within just a couple of days. The sub fascia was in bad shape and they ended up having to replace a large section of the porch roof and one of the porch posts due to rotted wood. After the repairs, they started on the siding, which went up in just a few days. Next came the windows; I chose a sash replacement system, and they were able to replace nearly all of the windows in a single day. After that I settled on colors and details (exterior lights, new door locks) and they started painting. I made a late decision to replace the back door, so they had to do extra work, but they were great about it and Brian gave me a fair price on the labor.
I was impressed with the crew and with Brian?s business practices throughout the process, and I am thrilled with the final result. Yes, there were costs that I was not expecting, but Brian told me what they were before they did the work and I approved every dime. He was more than fair on costs and made sure I was happy at every step in the project. The foreman, John, kept me updated on what was happening and took care of every little detail; I was so thankful to have him on the job. The crew moved quickly, but the work was done well, and I no longer worry about my house falling down around me.
After my experience with DH Construction, I won?t even consider another contractor for a job that Brian?s crew can handle. I highly recommend this company; you won?t be disappointed.
"Thank you for taking the time to write a response. We enjoyed working for you and look forward to seeing you again when your ready to do the deck!"
"Thank you for the kind words! We enjoyed working for you and look forward to seeing you again when we do the roof!"
"Thank you for writing a testimonial! We enjoyed working for you! We try very hard to be the company most people want to deal with. Although I don't think we will ever be perfect, it won't stop us from trying! Thanks again! Sincerely, Brian"
"Thank you Member for the testimonial! If we can ever be of service in the future let us know!"
"Thank you for writing such a nice testimonial Member! I remember when you first contacted me about this home right before you purchased it and the "deal" the seller was willing to give you on the house. We found out why, didn't we! Its better than new now and you will not have to worry about the exterior. As with all jobs we do, it was done correctly! We look forward to building the deck and sunroom for you in the future! Thanks again! Sincerely, Brian"
The overall costs exceeded the contract price that DH Construction quoted and received. These additional costs could not have been avoided. I am highly satisfied with the quality of work I received from DH Construction. I am also highly satisfied with the communication from Brian and the workmanship provided by his Angies List crew. These men worked long hard hours to finish the job to my satisfaction and I could not be happier. I was extremely impressed with the fact that Brian and his crew were not trying to meet a deadline, so they could rush to the next job. This work was professional, orderly and planned out on a daily basis. The overall job was finished when I was satisfied. Photos of the finished product to follow.
"Member, thank you for the testmonial! I hate you had to deal with so much rot issues. We only see them this bad 1 out of every 50 homes or so, it was bad due to previous sub par techniques. As you know its better than new now and you will never have to deal with it again! We look forward to working for you again when we do the other work for you this fall!"
The crew was very professional and kept the yard area picked up. Eddie and John went out of their way to show us places where the wood had rotted behind the Masonite that we had removed. Much of our roof underlayment was rotted too, so there was a lot of extra work.
Excellent professionalism, excellent work, the crew was very friendly and professional themselves and if we had any concerns at all, they immediately addressed them to our compete satisfaction. This provider constantly made us feel comfortable about the work being done and that they would ensure our satisfaction. We are very happy with the results; we feel that we truly have a new home!
"Member, thank you for the kind words! We really enjoyed working for you! Your home is beautiful! Very Respectfully, Brian!"
Our house was built in 1996 with Masonite siding that we had been replacing little by little as it rotted. As we started to notice more and more siding rot and the roof showed signs of distress we knew it was time to protect our property value and have the job done right!
We had seven companies evaluate the job and provide estimates. Brian impressed us from the get-go and his quote was complete with comprehensive details and information on every aspect of the job including the materials to be used. Brian discussed with us the most cost effective way to replace our roof, siding, windows and Entryway system while using higher quality materials than originally used when the house was built.
Brian was able to point out areas of rot and told us there could be other areas that were not visible. His lead carpenter Eddie showed us and photographed all rotten areas as the old siding was being removed. It was shocking to see how wet some of the wood was under the siding even though we had the house painted and caulked 2 additional times since it was built.
The roof was replaced in the first stage of the job and Brian used high grade felt and high quality roof shingles. Eddie and team took great care to cover all exposed areas while the work was under way to keep the house weather proofed during the roof and siding installations.
When the siding was removed each section of the house was covered with Raindrop, a protective barrier between siding and structure, which protects our house from any possible future water damage. Brian?s crew used thick tape around every window. We noticed at this stage of construction that our house was less drafty than it was when the old siding was up and the new siding hadn?t even been installed yet! It turned out that the original builder neglected to tape around ANY of our windows or use any type of barrier between siding and structure to keep the house air and water tight.
Then the Hardiplank siding, window repair, trim work, extra architectural interests, and new front door system were installed. The pride Brian, Eddie, and crew have in their work was evident when the job was done. The craftsmanship is fantastic from the carpentry work and recommended material down to the paint job (recommended by Brian and done by Hercules Paint Company) with Sherwin Williams Duration paint.
Our house is now air and water tight with great curb appeal! We?ve had several neighbors comment on the great job Brian did on the house!
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Brian and won?t consider anyone else with any future remodeling projects. Brian kept us WELL informed at ALL times and was never more that a moment away. Brian Howell is THE guy to go to!
Thanks for a great job Brian!
"Thank you for taking the time to write a testimonial! We try very hard to treat people the way we like to be treated. We enjoyed working for you!"
Let me start by saying that since websites like Angie's List and Service Magic have been created, the homeowner is given some great tools to get their specific projects done. The ability to reach out to many contractors/companies for free estimates is simply amazing... it can also be a bit overwhelming.
I had at least 10 different contractors/companies come out to give me estimates on 2 very specific items: 1) Repair existing damaged Masonite siding and repaint 2) remove all siding and reside using fiber cement (HardiPlank and CertainTeed). Each contractor gave me a different price, recommendation, and feeling (it's important). Once I had seen them all, I had narrowed it down to my top 3. Brian wouldn't even quote me on the first item -- he felt it was a disservice to me if we spent the money on repairs, only to have to continually repair and paint as time went on. From the get-go I felt like Brian and DH were the right fit, but I'm not one to make a hasty decision.
As my wife and I discussed our options we had questions, changes in scope, and concerns. As we reached out to the 3 different construction teams, Brian made a special visit for almost every call I made. He brought samples, introduced me to references, walked the house (probably on 5 different occasions), explained everything I needed to know (I had more questions than you can count). The other contractors/companies would simply answer my questions via phone (which isn't necessarily bad), but if I am going to part with a large sum of money, I need to be 100% confident I am getting what I pay for.
Needless to say (after all that), we decided to go with DH Construction. It took a few weeks for us to get on the schedule (things where apparently busy this fall- I now know why!) and we were kept in the loop on start dates, who would be coming, and times.
All of Brian's guys are a pleasure to work with. They were personable, respectful, laser-focused, and dedicated to remodeling our house like it was there own.... Brian's team is simply top notch. The lead guy EDDIE was an absolute master carpenter. Everything from demo and repairs to siding installation was done with precision and with care. I work from home, so I watched them work very closely (I have about 1000 pictures). They allowed me to watch and ask questions, asked for my approval along the way (before proceeding) and immediately alerted me when additional rot or damage was found. Brian, Eddie, and team will not install or paint over rotten or faulty infrastructure... they documented anything/everything that needed to be addressed before installation so that nothing went unnoticed or questioned. Brian was also on site at least 2 times each week to check on progress and check in with us... it really kept us sane.
Really long story short: We could not have been happier with Brian, his team, his work, product, and price. It was a pleasurable experience from start to finish (it's rare these days) and I am thankful for DH Construction and what they have done for our family. The project wrapped up right before the holidays, so we were able to show it off during our Christmas gatherings. The responses were inredible -- we certainly have the nicest looking house on the cul de sac... it is also inspiring a few other neighbors to start looking at siding options as well (let's bring up that property value!). They already have Brian's details and I'm sure you'll see their comments here this year. Awesome business, awesome guys, awesome work, and they are honest... I know have a go-to Construction team for life. I really can't sum it up any better. Thanks DH Construction!
"Thank you for taking the time to write a report! I as well as my crew enjoyed working for you!"
From start to finish, we were never at the house when the crew was there, but they did a good job. I was out of town, but got good info on progress. Area was cleaned up well when work was finished.
"Thank you for the kind words! We appreciate the business!"
Brian came to our house shortly after my call. He walked around the house with me and explained everything involved with the repair at each location and the possible condition of framing behind the trim. When it came to replacing the drip ledge over the garage door, Brian convinced me to replace the Masonite siding on both sides and just above the door with house wrap and Hardy plank. His reasoning being that when we do eventually get the rest of the house siding replaced, non of the work his crew does will have to be replaced.Later that same day Brian sent me the quote. Although his price was slightly high than another quote I received, I felt more comfortable DH Construction do the work. When I let Brian know I wanted DH to do the work, he appaulogized for not being able to fit us into their schedule for several weeks, but gave me the option of having his crew come the next Saturday for no extra cost. Done. That Saturday, Brian and his crew showed up on time and ready to go. After Brian walked around the house with me and his foreman to explain everything, DH Construction got right to work. While the carpenter was removing the trim and siding around the garage door, he brought to my attention that the framing holding up the header on one end of the garage door opening had rotted to a point that it was no longer holding up anything. The add for repairing the framing was $120. For the labor to take more trim apart and put back together as well as the framing, $120 was a very good price. That was the only problem found beyond what the estimate covered. As they finished each area, they would seal and prime everything before putting two coats of paint on by the end of day.
When they finished, the foreman walked around with me to make sure everything was the way I wanted it. After they they finished cleaning up all of debris from their work and left our house looking much better than how they found it.
The next Monday I found one seam they had overlooked while sealing. I called Brian, and within an hour someone came out and took care of it.
"Thank you for the testimonial! We look forward to working with you again when we come back and do the entire house!"
Most estimates came in about the same price range. Brian was the most forthright in how he planned to do the job, what materials he recommended, the cost of repairs outside the scope of his estimate, etc. He said that he most strongly recommended Hardiplank and primed only. He told me the type of paint he would use, the warranty he provides with painting, and discussed the other materials he uses on the job.
I selected DH Construction based on his openness and the good reviews on Angie's List. Also, he told me that it was a family business and how he had pride in the quality of workmanship they do. Since I was also putting a new roof on the house, we discussed who should come first. It was concluded that siding goes up first. We scheduled the job and he arrived on that day.
The job took approximately four weeks, with rain in between. We found some structural damage under the siding. He quoted me a price to repair the two areas. Since the estimate was slightly higher than actual work, Brian offered to complete other wish list items for the difference. That showed high integrity and openness. Overall, the new siding, the repairs of the structures, new window sills and fascia boards plus the exterior painting were of the highest quality. Where ever I found some slight: "missed" spots, they corrected everything. And the job came in on budget.
Finally, the painters were excellent and most concerned about their quality of work. I used a contractor they recommended for new gutters and downspouts, and they were excellent.
Two recommendations I made to Brian: 1) Start earlier than 8:30am; Take advantage of available daylight. I don't mind. and, 2) Really cleanup each day and especially when they finish work right before the weekend. When I brought to their attention, they were over right away and cleaned up any materials left in the yard.
I found the workmen to be courteous, trustworthy and concerned about what I thought of the job. And, when I texted Brian, he always got back to me right away.
"We enjoyed working for you! I appreciate you taking the time to write this report!"
We made the decision to replace our siding with fiber cement siding and have the entire exterior painted. Once the work started, Brian continued to be readily available to us. He stopped by often or called us to see how everything was going from our perspective. The crew led by by John and Eddie was awesome. The were hard workers who were meticulous with their work. If they did something that didn't look just right...they would redo it. All of the workers were respectful and considerate of our home, yard, and most importantly, to our family.
Replacing our siding was a major investment in our home and Brian understood that. Early on, he said, "when everything is finished you're going to be amazed at how good your house looks." It is so true....when everything was finished, it was like we had a new house. The quality of work and the conscientious manner in which they worked were outstanding. We felt throughout the process that DH Construction had our best interest at heart and they wanted us to be 100% satisfied...which we are. We had two other quotes for replacing the siding with fiber cement siding and Brian's quote was by far the best quote (by several thousand dollars). Again, this speaks to Brian's integrity. I highly recommend DH Construction especially if you are looking for a company who does quality work and who cares about you as a customer. Without a doubt, I will be calling DH Construction in the future.
"We enjoyed working for you! Thank you for taking the time to post this response! We look forward to working with you again in the future!"
"Thank you for the positive review Member! We enjoyed working for you! We completed this project almost 3 years ago. At that time we were using our own siding guys(we always have). We did sub the roof labor out and the painting (in which customer paid painter directly, not us.) We now use our own painters, siding and roofing guys. There are times we may get in a pinch due to weather, etc. in which we will call one of our subs to help. Most of our our subs are folks that use to directly work for us so quality is never a question. When you hire DH Construction we complete and warranty ALL work. Satisfaction is guaranteed! Thanks again!"
I did a two contractor repair of the whole situation, with DH Construction taking care of siding and trim first so that roofers then repaired the leak area and provided a new chimney cap that extends beyond the trim so water doesn't damage trim. For the chimney, they removed all trim and siding to make sure there wasn't any unseen damage, wrapped it with a RainDrop housewrap, used Miratec Trim boards to replace the rotted trim and replaced hardipland siding there and the other areas. They did the face nail siding on the areas that had popped out, caulked and painted those areas.
