We hired DH Construction about 2.5 years ago to reside the entire house, new roof, trim work etc.  Since that time we have had DH Construction out a couple of times to address minor issues. One that was created by HVAC service and Brian's guys came out replaced the siding and a couple small pieces of trim at no cost to us!
The latest was to repair some water damage above the garage door created by a piece of flashing not positioned correctly. I contacted Brian and emailed a few pictures showing the issue. We scheduled a date and time that Brian and his team would meet with us. After seeing the issue and the cause his team went to work resolving the problem at no cost to us. The problem is now
resolved and looks like it did when the job was completed 2.5 ago.
The service we have received from DH Construction has been excellent from day one and still now 2.5 years later.  This type of service confirms our first impression of Brian that he is an honorable and trust worthy man that I highly recommend.

We just had our 3 story house resided with hardiplank by DHConstruction. Brian Howell was the person who we interacted with and who you want to make sure to deal with. He was excellent, carefully explaining everything, identifying additional problems found, and making the pricing and payment easy to understand. He was in constant contact so we always knew what was happening and being planned.

DH Construction was not the lowest bid we received. However, it was easily the best choice given the excellent job they did. They use superior materials, including paint and wrapping the house in rainguard to let the house breathe while keeping moisture out. The work was top notch and the house looks great. We found the usual facia that needs to be replaced and a rotten window frame and base sill of the house. All taken care of by Brian and his crew (at extra cost of course). We didn't have to call any other contractors, including people to replace the gutters. They even blind nailed the siding where ever we didn't have 2x4 crowning problems due to the house's original construction.

If you want to go with the lowest bid somewhere else, watch out for one layer of inexpensive paint, little prep and priming, schedule delays, extra cost for electrical connections, confusing billing, face nailing everything, not wrapping the house in rainguard, higher cost to replace rotten wood, poor workmanship and shoddy cleanup. You get what you pay for.

We highly recommend Brian Howell and D H Construction.

We used Angie?s List to find Brian Howell and DH Construction.  We needed to replace large segments of our Masonite siding and discussed options with Brian.  We decided to replace all the siding with Hardiplank.  Brian?s team r emoved the old siding, wrapped the house and installed the Hardiplank siding.  Our chimney had some some unforeseen problems which they fixed.  They painted
the trim and new siding.
A little over a year later, we needed to replace our roof.  Again, we called on Brian.  He provided a quote and as of the end of October, 2013 we have a new roof.  We went with Landmark shingles.

Bottom line we are extremely happy with the new roof and siding.  Brian and his team were very professional.  They answered our questions, explained options and even did a great job cleaning up after the job was done.

I got a quote from Brian Howell last summer and it took a few months to decide to move forward with the project; after I contacted Brian with the go ahead, it took a few more months before his crew could get to me, but I understood then (and better understand now after having them around for ten weeks) that they focus all of their attention on the house they're working on, rather than rushing to get it done in a set amount of time so they can go on to the next job.  I had many problems with my house because the builder was more interested in building as many houses as they could as quickly as possible, so I greatly appreciate Brian's emphasis on quality.
Once the crew started, in mid-May, they started with a bang.  They started removing the old, rotting wood siding and had every bit of it down within just a couple of days.  The sub fascia was in bad shape and they ended up having to replace a large section of the porch roof and one of the porch posts due to rotted wood.  After the repairs, they started on the siding, which went up in just a few days.  Next came the windows; I chose a sash replacement system, and they were able to replace nearly all of the windows in a single day.  After that I settled on colors and details (exterior lights, new door locks) and they started painting.  I made a late decision to replace the back door, so they had to do extra work, but they were great about it and Brian gave me a fair price on the labor.
I was impressed with the crew and with Brian?s business practices throughout the process, and I am thrilled with the final result.  Yes, there were costs that I was not expecting, but Brian told me what they were before they did the work and I approved every dime.  He was more than fair on costs and made sure I was happy at every step in the project.  The foreman, John, kept me updated on what was happening and took care of every little detail; I was so thankful to have him on the job.  The crew moved quickly, but the work was done well, and I no longer worry about my house falling down around me.
After my experience with DH Construction, I won?t even consider another contractor for a job that Brian?s crew can handle.  I highly recommend this company; you won?t be disappointed.

Working with Brian, John, & the crew was a great experience from start to finish! Brian was responsive & communicative, from the initial estimate to keeping us informed about scheduling & any issues that came up as the project went on. The decision to add new windows was not part of the initial plan/estimate, so I appreciated Brian's flexibility and quick response to the addition and in providing us options & estimates. John did an excellent job of supervising & coordinating all of the sub-projects; I felt confident in the work that he and his team were doing as I saw the ways in which he double-checked work ( e.g.measurements for the windows' placement) but also provided feedback. The paint job is *amazing* and we have gotten many compliments from our neighbors. We feel like we have a new house! I would definitely recommend DH Construction & use them for future projects.

We can't say enough good things about this company and the job they did. They were careful and took their time to ensure a quality job. Top quality materials were used for everything. They didn't just slap new shingles over the old, although they could have. When they found problems not covered in the contract (bad wood, mainly) they always informed us before undertaking a repair. Brian actually did more than the contract called for because he felt it would look better. His workers were always friendly and cleaned up pretty well on a daily basis. Our house looks great and we'll never have to do this again. Thanks Brian.

Went well. Everyone was skilled, friendly, responsive and professional. The entire project took several weeks which was a reasonable time given the work involved. Final cost was very high, but also very reasonable given the amount work done. The final product has received nothing but rave reviews from everyone who sees it - including all our neighbors. Brian is an excellent communicator and was very willing to entertain any and all questions. Excellent warranty on the products and the work. Other than routine painting, I'm confident that we won't have to worry about the siding again as long as we live in this house.

I remember when you first contacted me about this home right before you purchased it and the "deal" the seller was willing to give you on the house. We found out why, didn't we! Its better than new now and you will not have to worry about the exterior. As with all jobs we do, it was done correctly! We look forward to building the deck and sunroom for you in the future! Thanks again! Sincerely, Brian"

During the initial correspondence with Brian by e-mail, he listened to what I wanted and made suggestions to fill those needs. I then talked to him on the telephone on a couple of occasions to answer any questions he might have, and to advise of other work I'd like to have done. Brian told me that since I was working out of town that he would take photos of the progress as it was being completed and send them to me, to make it seem as though I were there in person to see the work completed. Brian took several photos after the job was started and continued to do so until the job was finished.

The overall costs exceeded the contract price that DH Construction quoted and received. These additional costs could not have been avoided. I am highly satisfied with the quality of work I received from DH Construction. I am also highly satisfied with the communication from Brian and the workmanship provided by his Angies List crew. These men worked long hard hours to finish the job to my satisfaction and I could not be happier. I was extremely impressed with the fact that Brian and his crew were not trying to meet a deadline, so they could rush to the next job. This work was professional, orderly and planned out on a daily basis. The overall job was finished when I was satisfied. Photos of the finished product to follow.

Excellent.  The first words Brian said when we informed him that he got the job was ?you will not regret this decision?.  This provider consistently communicated what was going on and how they were taking care of us.
The crew was very professional and kept the yard area picked up. Eddie and John went out of their way to show us places where the wood had rotted behind the Masonite that we had removed. Much of our roof underlayment was rotted too, so there was a lot of extra work.
Excellent professionalism, excellent work, the crew was very friendly and professional themselves and if we had any concerns at all, they immediately addressed them to our compete satisfaction.  This provider constantly made us feel comfortable about the work being done and that they would ensure our satisfaction. We are very happy with the results; we feel that we truly have a new home!

Brian and his crew just finished a huge job on our 2300 sq ft home and we couldn't be more pleased that not only did we get what we expected from his detailed description of work to be preformed but that Brian and his team EXCEEDED our expectations in craftsmanship, professionalism, and constant communication with us on every aspect as the job proceeded. The job we hired Brian to do seemed daunting to us but Brian was confident and well prepared and kept us up to date with every detail and answered all questions as comprehensively as possible.  Brian stressed to us that he wanted us to be happy with the work being done and was available within moments to answer our questions at every turn.

Our house was built in 1996 with Masonite siding that we had been replacing little by little as it rotted.  As we started to notice more and more siding rot and the roof showed signs of distress we knew it was time to protect our property value and have the job done right!

We had seven companies evaluate the job and provide estimates.  Brian impressed us from the get-go and his quote was complete with comprehensive details and information on every aspect of the job including the materials to be used.  Brian discussed with us the most cost effective way to replace our roof, siding, windows and Entryway system while using higher quality materials than originally used when the house was built.

Brian was able to point out areas of rot and told us there could be other areas that were not visible. His lead carpenter Eddie showed us and photographed all rotten areas as the old siding was being removed.  It was shocking to see how wet some of the wood was under the siding even though we had the house painted and caulked 2 additional times since it was built.

The roof was replaced in the first stage of the job and Brian used high grade felt and high quality roof shingles.  Eddie and team took great care to cover all exposed areas while the work was under way to keep the house weather proofed during the roof and siding installations.

When the siding was removed each section of the house was covered with Raindrop, a protective barrier between siding and structure, which protects our house from any possible future water damage.  Brian?s crew used thick tape around every window.  We noticed at this stage of construction that our house was less drafty than it was when the old siding was up and the new siding hadn?t even been installed yet!  It turned out that the original builder neglected to tape around ANY of our windows or use any type of barrier between siding and structure to keep the house air and water tight.

Then the Hardiplank siding, window repair, trim work, extra architectural interests, and new front door system were installed.  The pride Brian, Eddie, and crew have in their work was evident when the job was done.  The craftsmanship is fantastic from the carpentry work and recommended material down to the paint job (recommended by Brian and done by Hercules Paint Company) with Sherwin Williams Duration paint.

Our house is now air and water tight with great curb appeal! We?ve had several neighbors comment on the great job Brian did on the house!

We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Brian and won?t consider anyone else with any future remodeling projects.  Brian kept us WELL informed at ALL times and was never more that a moment away.  Brian Howell is THE guy to go to!

Thanks for a great job Brian!

Brian came out and looked at the house and gave me two estimates. First estimate was for the work I wanted to do.  Second estimate was for a more comprehensive repair.  We went with the second option, and I'm glad we did.

From start to finish, we were never at the house when the crew was there, but they did a good job.  I was out of town, but got good info on progress.  Area was cleaned up well when work was finished.

Brian came to our house shortly after my call. He walked around the house with me and explained everything involved with the repair at each location and the possible condition of framing behind the trim. When it came to replacing the drip ledge over the garage door, Brian convinced me to replace the Masonite siding on both sides and just above the door with house wrap and Hardy plank. His reasoning being that when we do eventually get the rest of the house siding replaced, non of the work his crew does will have to be replaced.Later that same day Brian sent me the quote. Although his price was slightly high than another quote I received, I felt more comfortable DH Construction do the work. When I let Brian know I wanted DH to do the work, he appaulogized for not being able to fit us into their schedule for several weeks, but gave me the option of having his crew come the next Saturday for no extra cost. Done. That Saturday, Brian and his crew showed up on time and ready to go. After Brian walked around the house with me and his foreman to explain everything, DH Construction got right to work. While the carpenter was removing the trim and siding around the garage door, he brought to my attention that the framing holding up the header on one end of the garage door opening had rotted to a point that it was no longer holding up anything.  The add for repairing the framing was $120.  For the labor to take more trim apart and put back together as well as the framing, $120 was a very good price.  That was the only problem found beyond what the estimate covered.  As they finished each area, they would seal and prime everything before putting two coats of paint on by the end of day.
When they finished, the foreman walked around with me to make sure everything was the way I wanted it.  After they they finished cleaning up all of debris from their work and left our house looking much better than how they found it.
The next Monday I found one seam they had overlooked while sealing.  I called Brian, and within an hour someone came out and took care of it.

Due to a substantial amount of rotten siding, so we wanted estimates on replacing all of the siding vs. piecemealing it over time.  We had several quotes with one being from DH Construction.  From our first visit with Brian Howell, we were very impressed with Brian's honesty and straight forward talk.  He processsed with us....providing the pros/cons and costs of replacing with fiber cement or with vinyl siding OR fixing rotted areas a little at a time.  After meeting with us, Brian was readily available via phone, text or email.  He encouraged to ask as many questions as we had.  He answered all of our questions thoroughly and honestly.  Not once did we ever feel Brian was pushing a specific product or service on us.  He wanted us  to make an informed decision and do what we could within our budget.

We made the decision to replace our siding with fiber cement siding and have the entire exterior painted.  Once the work started, Brian continued to be readily available to us.  He stopped by often or  called us to see how everything was going from our perspective.  The crew led by by John and Eddie was awesome.  The were hard workers who were meticulous with their work.  If they did something that didn't look just right...they would redo it.  All of the workers were respectful and considerate of our home, yard, and most importantly, to our family.
Replacing our siding was a major investment in our home and Brian understood that.  Early on, he said, "when everything is finished you're going to be amazed at how good your house looks."  It is  so true....when everything was finished, it was like we had a new house.  The quality of work and the conscientious manner in which they worked were outstanding.  We felt throughout the process that DH Construction had our best interest at heart and they wanted us to be 100% satisfied...which we are.  We had two other quotes for replacing the siding with fiber cement siding and Brian's quote was by far the best quote (by several thousand dollars).  Again, this speaks to Brian's integrity.  I highly recommend DH Construction especially if you are looking for a company who does quality work and who cares about you as a customer.  Without a doubt, I will be calling DH Construction in the future.

"Thank you for the positive review Member! We enjoyed working for you! We completed this project almost 3 years ago. At that time we were using our own siding guys(we always have). We did sub the roof labor out and the painting (in which customer paid painter directly, not us.) We now use our own painters, siding and roofing guys. There are times we may get in a pinch due to weather, etc. in which we will call one of our subs to help. Most of our our subs are folks that use to directly work for us so quality is never a question. When you hire DH Construction we complete and warranty ALL work. Satisfaction is guaranteed! It began with a roof leak. I asked roofers we were getting estimates from to evaluate the whole roof area from which we learned that one area of hardiplank siding was up against the shingles (there should be a gap)  and it was an area that gets a lot of water flowing through. It and a fascia board had rotted. The chimney cap design was improperly done so that water was running down the trim boards and causing rot there. Another area on the front of the house experienced some rot where a gutter abuts the house (still not sure why it did it but we found a piece of siding in the gutter that may have caused some backflow toward the house). Finally where there were hardipank boards joining on large stretches there were gaps and they seemed to be pulling away.

I did a two contractor repair of the whole situation, with DH Construction taking care of siding and trim first so that roofers then repaired the leak area and provided a new chimney cap that extends beyond the trim so water doesn't damage trim. For the chimney, they removed all trim and siding to make sure there wasn't any unseen damage, wrapped it with a RainDrop housewrap, used Miratec Trim boards to replace the rotted trim and replaced hardipland siding there and the other areas. They did the face nail siding on the areas that had popped out, caulked and painted those areas.

After getting quotes from three other top tier local subcontractors, I choose D&H based on the testimonials on Angies list (from the Raleigh area) as well as the references I received from former clients. Brian Howell's quote was the lowest, and the materials he quoted using were the highest quality of any subcontractor. He was also one of the only certified installers of the fiber cement siding. Part of the reason his quote was lower was his ability to repair the M&W windows that were originally put in the house when it was built in 1987. We had several additions to the original quote, including replacement of a large picture window, and replacement of unsuitable structural sheathing, Brian was extremely hesitant to add additional changes to the job, even after discovery that much more rotten wood had to be replaced than was allowed for in his quote. I paid what he quoted, plus the additions mentioned above. His crew was very hardworking and professional even when the job dragged on longer than any of us anticipated due to weather conditions and holidays. The crew had nearly a two hour long commute each way, but they were here most mornings by 8:30 or 9:00 and worked sometimes until after dark. The crew made every effort to make sure we were satisfied in even the smallest details of the job. They even repaired interior nail pops on drywall at no extra charge. My wife and I are thrilled with the way the house looks. But the best part is knowing that we won't have any issues with the workmanship or materials. We received a warranty on workmanship from D&H, and on materials from all suppliers. Because he is an authorized installer of the fiber cement siding, he registered the warranty paperwork for us, and it is transferable should we decide to sell. I really am glad to have a contractor who values the independent nature of Angie's List, and even after he gets the job, understands that he needs to keep his customers happy. Brian wants his customers for life, and does what it takes!

Defective siding had buckled in places, nail pops, etc. I got 3 estimates on repairs and found Brian's to be the most professionally done estimate with a detailed description of what would be done. Brian communicated both with email and phone calls, including calling when someone would be even 5 minutes late arriving to my home. Eddie, who was in charge at the site, was very hard working and pleasant, answering my questions promptly. The crew cleaned up daily before leaving the house. This job was done in during an intense heat wave and they never complained nor slowed up with the work. After the job was completed, there were a couple of areas that needed some minor attention still -- Brian was very prompt in coming back to take care of those without question. I am very impressed with the responsiveness, professionalism of this company's owner and employees and overall quality of the work performed.

We have been happy with DH Construction. We had called 3 other companies before we found them online in a Google search (before I joined Angie's List.) Two companies didn't return my calls; one came out and promised a bid but never delivered. The owner of DHC (Brian) came out when he said he would. He was frank and up front about what things would cost and what he would provide. He told us what he recommended and didn?t recommend, based on his experience. If I call him, he either answers or calls me right back. That's reassuring and helps things go smoothly. We had a couple of problems with a cord on our air conditioner getting kinked up when one of his guys was working with a ladder in a tight corner outside the house. Both times we had a problem, we called DHC and Brian went to a lot of trouble to locate someone he trusted to come out and take a look. He paid the for the repair both times and the air conditioner is fine again. I felt like Brian was willing to work with us to meet our needs and that he's honest. He's a guy who seems to like his work and to know what he's doing. I would use DH Construction again and would recommend them to friends.
