"I hired CGA electric to perform some electrical work in my home as a part of a kitchen remodel. Their job was to remove six power outlets and their associated junction boxes from my kitchen walls and rewire the kitchen to provide power to the lower kitchen cabinets so that the removed power outlets could be replaced by under-cabinet power strips. Replacing two circuit breakers was also included. CGA Electric did an excellent job, and, importantly, did not leave behind any damage to the premises. I'd highly recommend them to others and will certainly keep them in mind for any future electrical work."

"I had an outstanding experience with Miguel and highly recommend him for any electrical work! He arrived on time, was incredibly warm, courteous, and professional throughout the entire process. Miguel went above and beyond by securing a permit from the county, installing a transfer switch for my new generator, and even arranging for the inspector to come the same day. The installation was completed quickly, accurately, and at a great price. His attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction were exceptional. I will definitely hire Miguel again for any future electrical needs. Five stars!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can check if an electrician is licensed in California by using the online check a license tool offered by the Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State License Board. You have the option of searching by the license number, the electrical contractor’s name, or the name of the business to determine the electrician’s status.

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

A ground wire is not required for GFCI to work. A ground is a third wire in an outlet in addition to the live and neutral wires. It serves as an escape conduit for electricity in case of a short circuit. If a ground wire is present, installers should connect it to the appropriate terminal. Otherwise, a GFCI will work fine without it.

You should never unplug or touch a buzzing outlet. If there are appliances plugged in that are causing the buzzing, wait until the appliance is turned off (or turn it off yourself) and then unplug it from the outlet. Test the outlet by plugging in something that won’t use much power—a small lamp works well. If the outlet still buzzes, have a pro investigate why.

It’s recommended that you test GFCI outlets monthly with the test and reset buttons. At minimum, you should test GFCI outlets when entering a new season, or every three months. These are important home safety features that you should ensure work properly.
