"Robert and Angel came early in the morning and worked all day to repair 80 year old stone pillars and split rail fence that were destroyed by a car driving through it. By the end of the day, it was restored to a fare better condition than it was before and matched to former character and colors. I also learned that Robert is a very skilled stone sculpture artist, and he left his finger prints and impressions on our new stone fence."

"Nicolas and his crew were wonderful to work with and did an amazing job, we are extremely pleased with how this project turned out. Yes, it takes awhile to get on his schedule - because he is in demand. Yes, it seems expensive - but not when considering the amount of work performed, the specific skills involved, the weather conditions, and the cost of supplies and labor. Nicolas and his team helped change my do-it-yourself brick pathway that tree roots had upheaved and which drained toward our deck, into a professional looking walkway with proper drainage. They removed and reused the bricks to create level and more functional storage areas. They put another pathway and stone steps into the slope down to the patio, which is now also finished with pavers. Nicolas was attentive to details and added requests, and guarantees their work and that you will be happy with it. We would recommend them and use them again without hesitation."

"Not really a "brick, stone or block wall - install" but it's the closest I could get with the list. Ripped out 30+ year old brick island at the front of our subdivision, installed a new concrete version & filled with topsoil. The job came in at or under the price quoted & we are very happy with it. I was very impressed with Adrian in regard to his work ethic, desire to please a customer, knowledge, scheduling & ability to get the work done."

"They were very accommodating. The work was originally scheduled for January 2012 and they were able to change their schedule to do the work the day after Christmas. They got everything done that I needed to get done. They did excellent work. They were competitive with everybody else. It is hard to say anything about the quality because they did foundation work and you cannot go in there and see anything."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

During masonry work, safety starts with managing the local weather. Wake Forest summers exceed 95 degrees, requiring strict heat safety plans and shaded materials to prevent rapid mortar curing. In winter, temperatures dropping below 40 degrees demand cold-weather protection. Always use wet cutting methods to control silica dust. Ensure your contractor secures necessary inspections at every stage to keep the structure safe and sound.

Helpful?

Watch out for quotes that demand large upfront cash deposits or ignore Wake County clay soil conditions. A reputable professional will always include proper footing depths and drainage plans. Reject quotes that fail to mention required town permits or lack proof of workers' compensation insurance. Additionally, the contractor must specify the correct mortar type to withstand the humid NC climate and adhere strictly to state building codes.

Helpful?

Start by contacting the local inspections department to secure necessary permits and verify property setbacks. If you live in a governed subdivision, obtain HOA design approval before beginning any masonry work. Schedule your project during the moderate spring or fall months to ensure proper mortar curing. Finally, insist on a thorough soil assessment to plan proper drainage solutions for the heavy clay soil common in Wake Forest.

Helpful?

Homeowners frequently ignore how expanding clay soils impact footing depths, leading to cracked structures. Another major mistake involves skipping required municipal permits or HOA approvals to save time. Neglecting to install proper drainage behind retaining walls causes rapid failure from water pressure. Finally, scheduling masonry work during extreme summer heat or winter freezes prevents mortar from curing correctly, leaving your NC property vulnerable to severe structural damage.

Helpful?

Prioritize a foundation inspection and tuckpointing to address any mortar deterioration caused by shifting clay soils. Next, consider building retaining walls to manage yard slopes and improve poor soil drainage. You should also schedule a chimney inspection to catch freeze-thaw damage early. Finally, evaluate your brick walkways and entry steps. Replacing improperly installed entry masonry prevents trip hazards and keeps water away from your Wake Forest home.
