"Excellent father and son team replaced old smoke alarms throughout the house and hard wired them with zero damage to ceilings. They showed me how the alarms will work for good peace of mind. Also fixed wiring to my backyard outdoor lights and got them up and functioning again. Great work on both projects!"

"We replaced the original roof on our house. I expressed my concerns about re-installation of the lightening rods to my roofer. We have had at least three direct hits since they were originally installed in 2013. My roofer called William who was very helpful. William offered to come out an make sure everything was 100% after re-installation. He came the day after I called and I'm glad he did. While the reinstall was the best he had seen (his words) there were issues after 5 year and 3 strikes that needed addressed. He fixed those and now I have a new roof and I am certain the lightening rods will work as intended. Highly recommend this company."

Frank arrived on the agreed upon installation date on time, worked efficiently, kept me apprised of his progress. He arranged for all required inspections and coordinated work with Duke Energy employees. I would definitely hire Frank for any electrical work and recommend him highly."

I'm experienced in a variety of handyman and odd jobs as well as a variety of more professional tasks such as concrete, electrical, framing/carpentry, mechanics, tile, painting, heavy equipment and more. I am a heavy equipment operator by trade via the United States Marine Corps but have worked in all of the listed areas of expertise in the past. Whatever home task you have, rest assured that I will get it taken care of correctly, efficiently, and at a fair rate.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Amps describe the amount of energy that can flow through a circuit breaker. Every electrical device that’s attached to the breaker requires about 1.5 amps. While that equates to roughly 13 receptacles per 20 amps, using slightly fewer ensures that your circuit will always have enough energy for sudden power surges instead of tripping when one occurs. In general, 10 to 12 receptacles is recommended for a 20 amp circuit.

Doorbell wires typically won't spark because they carry low voltage. However, if there's a short circuit or damaged wiring, sparking could occur. Always turn off the power at the breaker box before working with doorbell wires to prevent any risk. If you notice any sparking, it's a sign of a problem that a professional electrician should address.

No, there aren’t additional code requirements for kitchen lights. Kitchen lights and other electrical circuits in the kitchen have different code requirements. Outlets need to be particularly robust because of their frequency of use and proximity to liquids. If you need help determining where to install outlets in your kitchen, consult a local electrician who can ensure that placement is functional and up to code.

A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire.

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

Most hot tubs use between 1,500 watts and 6,000 watts of electricity, depending on the voltage of your heater. 120-volt heaters tip toward the low end, and 240-volt heaters tip toward the high end. Expect your pump to add another 1,500 watts. Newer, energy-efficient models use less electricity, while older models use more.
