"The owner Frank came out with a smile and put me at ease. I had compared three electrical companies. The Electic Man was the best price. The work was Top notch. Very satisfied. "This is the best experience I've ever had with a repairman. So professional and a great experience. He came the day I called. Had the parts in stock. Shifted his schedule around to come back in 2 days to completely tear down my refrigerator and get it back running. My compressor had seized up and some electrical parts were actually melted. He saved me spending $1500 on a new refrigerator.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, you should always use proper electrical wire caps to safely cap off electrical wires. Electrical tape isn’t as durable as electrical caps and can deteriorate and separate over time, exposing the live wires. The only way to use electrical tape for this project is to wrap it around the caps themselves to reinforce them and create an even stronger connection, preventing an electrical emergency.

Unless you’re a licensed electrician, you should not DIY any electrical work in your home. Working with wires and electricity is potentially dangerous to both you and the structure you’re working on, and it could lead to house fires or electric shock if you’re not 100% sure what you’re doing. There’s a big difference between changing a light switch cover and rewiring an entire home. If you’re staring down a potentially difficult electrical job, give a pro a call.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.

No. Do not use a 14-gauge wire on a 20-amp outlet. A certified licensed electrician would know that the National Electrical Code (as per Section 240.4(D) subsection 3) requires 14-gauge wires to be used with a maximum amplitude of 15. Therefore, you should only use 12-gauge wires on 20-amp outlets.

Even if you don’t have children living in your home, The National Fire Prevention Association still recommends installing tamper-resistant outlets when you’re replacing your existing outlets.

Not only is your home likely to change hands at some point, but you may have young children over as guests. Making the switch even if you don’t currently have children living with you at the moment will help protect any future pint-sized visitors to your home.
