"Steam Source is superior all around. The technicians were very professional and arrived early after giving us a call. They worked for nearly 3-4 hours cleaning all that we had asked, including the area rug I had forgotten about. They did a marvelous job getting out as many stains as possible, given that we haven't had carpets or furniture cleaned in probably 20 years! Everything looks brand new and so bright. I can't recommend Steam Source enough and will definitely call them again."

Byron and Alan, we're very clonsiderate, moving my things and moving them back into place, haven't had any workers come in my home and work like that. "David did an outstanding job restoring my wood and vinyl floors. There was a tremendous amount of dirt, stains, and damage, and I never expected the floors to look as good as they did when he finished. The cost was also very fair. He will be my first choice for any future floor work."

"Everyone involved was very polite and professional. They showed up when they said they would. The work however did take much longer than I had expected (9 days) as I only had them remove wallpaper, paint , remove carpet and put down flooring in 2 5x10 bathrooms. They also had to remove popcorn ceiling in one of the bathrooms. I think what took longer , was the fact that they had to redo and correct mistakes along the way. Perhaps if things had been done correctly the first time, it wouldn't of taken so long. They did try very hard to make things right. I will agree with other reviewers that they are more expensive as well."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

The complexity of installation depends on the type of flooring you choose and the level of expertise required to install it. While some materials, like vinyl or laminate, offer relatively straightforward installation processes suitable for DIY enthusiasts, others, such as natural stone or hardwood, often require professional assistance from a flooring company to ensure proper fitting and longevity.

Carpet installation costs include carpet type (material, weave), room size, subfloor preparation, and labor costs. Getting multiple quotes provides a clearer picture of expected expenses.

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

No, thick carpet padding isn’t necessarily better than thinner padding. The appropriate padding thickness will depend on the type of carpet and the amount of foot traffic in the area.

For example, thick padding works well in low-traffic areas, like bedrooms, where you have soft and plush carpeting. However, thick carpet padding can damage low-pile carpet, which is used in the busiest parts of your home (like hallways and entryways). For that reason, it’s best to use thinner, heavier padding underneath carpet in high-traffic areas.
