"I have never been more satisfied with a cleaning company than I am with Steam Source. The list of services they provide is extensive and exactly what we needed to provide our clients with an extra layer of protection against the spread of COVID. They arrived ahead of schedule, worked very efficiently and were very courteous. They made the entire process so easy and left our 10,000 square foot business in great shape. I highly recommend this company and will look forward to using their services in the future."

"Fast, carpet replacement for the whole house was done for 4 hours. Good value, less expensive than other contenders. Our representative Howard Naylor from Empire was very customer dedicated and professional, we really appreciate it. Highly recommended."

"Our water heater busted, flooding our bedroom, forcing us to move into our baby’s nursery who was due to arrive in just a few short weeks. After fixing the water heater and tearing up the carpet I started making phone calls to many different businesses who were all very monotoned professionals who didn’t give a hoot about our situation. Upon contacting Floor Coverings International I was immediately met with a very personable employee who worked with us and made us feel at ease. The carpet was measured, picked out, and installed within a weeks time giving us enough time to move out of our sons nursery and back into ours before he arrived. We now have a very handsome son and we are so blessed to have had such an amazing company to have worked with. I would give this company a recommendation to every friend and family member I have, they were wonderful."

"Things looked good right after they left but I later noticed white spots on my car, stains on concrete that didnâ t come up after the garage floor dried, a torn patio cushion. I had to replace my patio cushions because they did not come clean. They are a friendly company but attention to detail needs improvement."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Acclimating laminate flooring cannot be rushed. Laminate flooring needs at least 48 hours to acclimate properly to its new environment, and being patient during this time can make installation go smoother because you will not be dealing with boards that have expanded or contracted during the shipping process. You will also be less likely to damage the boards during installation.

The best underlayment for carpet on concrete is a sponge rubber underlayment. This type of carpet padding is durable enough to endure wear and tear on hard concrete yet soft enough to provide comfort underfoot. It also creates insulation from sound and temperature, providing warmth despite the concrete’s cold surface.

Berber is a loop pile carpet known for its strength, durability, and distinct looped look. It can be made from a number of different carpet materials, including nylon and wool. However, Berber isn’t as soft as cut pile carpet, so it isn’t the best carpet for a bedroom (although it’s a good style of carpet for living rooms).

With that said, if you really like the look of Berber, you can still install it in your bedroom—it just might not be as comfortable on your feet as cut pile carpeting.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

The first step in budgeting for carpet is to determine the amount of carpet you need and the type of carpet you want. You might be tempted to opt for the least expensive option if you have a limited budget, but a low-quality carpet won’t last as long as a high-quality one. When accounting for future carpet repair costs, it makes sense to buy the best-quality carpet you can afford.
