"The electricians from Storm Electric did an excellent job installing a manual transfer switch for my portable generator. They were punctual, professional in their workmanship and very willing to take the time to answer any questions I had. I would recommend Storm to friends and would definitely use them again."

"I'm a repeat customer of Evans Electric. Matt and team did all the electrical work 4 years ago when we finished our basement. Fast forward to Nov. 2023, Matt and team did some electrical work for our kitchen reno, plus recessed lights/switches for bathrooms and office. Matt initially came for consultation and estimate (came by on time), provided various options as though it was his house. I always appreciate different perspectives and the conversation that is "if I were you, I would..." or "have you thought about..." This week, Matt and Tim came for the work, and can't say enough about how great the work is, their professionalism, and attention to detail. Looks great! Great communicator, I knew what they were going to do, what was expected. Matt, Tim, thank you for your work! Will definitely use Evans Electric again, and refer my friends to them as well."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Thomasville, signs like flickering lights, frequent breaker trips, or a burning odor near outlets often point to outdated electrical work. Homes built before the 1970s may have aluminum or knob-and-tube wiring, which can be unsafe. If you notice missing GFCI outlets in kitchens or bathrooms, two-prong outlets, or extension cords used as permanent wiring, it’s time to consider an electrical panel upgrade or rewiring.

Helpful?

Thomasville’s humid summers and frequent thunderstorms make moisture protection and surge protection crucial for electrical systems. Outdoor wiring should use weatherproof covers and GFCI outlets to prevent water damage. Spring and fall offer the best conditions for electrical projects due to milder weather. With summer storms causing occasional outages, whole-house surge protectors and generator hookups are smart upgrades for local homeowners.

Helpful?

For minor issues in Thomasville, safely replace light bulbs, reset tripped breakers, and test GFCI outlets using the test button. Always shut off power at the breaker and confirm with a voltage tester before touching any wiring. Avoid DIY repairs in damp basements or crawl spaces, which are common here. If you notice sparking, persistent outages, or need to add circuits, contact a licensed local electrician.

Helpful?

Thomasville offers residential electricians for home wiring, electrical panel upgrades, and smart home installations. Commercial contractors handle larger projects for offices and retail spaces, while specialists focus on generators, solar panel systems, or security wiring. Many contractors are experienced with historic homes and storm damage repairs, ensuring they understand local building codes and inspection requirements unique to Thomasville properties.

Helpful?

For electrical work in Thomasville, copper wiring is preferred for its durability, especially in older homes. Use THWN-2 wire in humid or damp areas, and consider galvanized or stainless steel panels to resist corrosion. Outdoor and crawl space installations benefit from NEMA 3R enclosures, MC cable, and PVC conduit. Weatherproof outlet covers and tamper-resistant receptacles also help ensure safety and code compliance.
